Nothing important, just some tunes

Well, okay, there's one important thing. I'm pleased with last night's Media7, featuring CTV chairman Nick Smith, Christchurch Press editor Andrew Holden and our own delightful David Haywood. It's not always easy to strike the right tone in such a show, but I think we got close. You can watch that here -- and that should apply to viewers outside New Zealand too.

And with that, I'm goofing off. It seems like there hasn't been much time for idling this past month: even at the parties I've been on the job in some sense. I MCd my friends Carla and Joe's wedding reception on Saturday, and delivered the mihi in front of Joe's big northern whanau, which was much more nerve-wracking than being on TV ever is. I did okay. And when I say it was a privilege to later stand by Joe as he spoke so powerfully and beautifully, I mean it. My eyes are welling up as I think of it.

I was also working the party at The Onyas two weeks ago. That finished with Disasteradio and The Darkroom doing this massive thing:

Given recent events, you might want to be somewhere where it is impossible to think of the real world and its troubles. Say, at Pretty Lights' New Years Eve show in Chicago, while he's rolling out that big, stately remix of Kanye West's 'All of the Lights':

You might also wish to be 22 years old.

A tune: William Fitzsimmons' 'So This Is Goodbye (Pink Ganter remix)' is gorgeous. It's from his recent album of remixes and things, Derivatives, which is available on iTunes.

Another tune: Hercules & Love Affair cover the Xx's 'Shelter' in smoochy, housey style.

And a whole bundle of of tunes and remixes, including two tracks from Jamie Xx's new album reworking Gil Scott Heron's I'm New Here.

And finally, NZ On Screen added some significant music video this week: two tracks from a studio performance for TV by the Herbs lineup of the What's Be Happen era. 'Dragons and Demons':

And 'Azania'
