O Lawdy, it even has plumbing!

An OCD certainly did the model; the plumbing matches the real one (apologies, could have used cropping). Joe, your eye for detail is incredible.

You're too kind, it's your nice big pic. I was checking if it was one of those matchstick jobs, the sort of thing that certain folks seem to do in lieu of spending time in purgatory, when I saw those downpipes and thought, wow!

Oh Hebe, that interior picture of the basilica gets me right here! Such a beautiful building.

  • Hebe, in reply to Lilith __,

I have some better pictures, especially of the interior, but I'm reluctant to bore unChch people. Let me know if you specially want pix and I'll figure out a way to send you some.

If the files aren't too huge, I'd love to be emailed some! If you click the little envelope alongside my name.

Would have been a treat if the model lit up from inside – like the plastic glow-in-the-dark Acropolis lamp I once saw in the Plaka in Athens (I so wanted that but couldn't carry it or reliably ship it home).

  • Joe Wylie, in reply to Hebe,

I've seen a 70s-vintage souvenir lamp in the form of St Peters in Rome, with transparencies of past popes in the windows. The scale was rather smaller, and the level of detail was pretty woeful compared to the Barbadoes St basilica-within-a-basilica.

I recently went to Sydney for the first time since 1984. The Queen Victoria Building on a Sunday, with hardly anyone it, was a dream to photograph. It gave me a new found appreciation for interior/architectural photography.

That is astoundingly beautiful. I love the way that you've proportioned that green behind the red so well.

Spoke too soon, and made an even bigger parking lot. Retiring quietly now to do some work!

We are working on this, although it appears to happen when you don't wait until the photo loads before refreshing the page. But hey, it's our first blog specific meme, so there's that.

Thinking that trying a smaller file size would be useful.

Think you might be right. As we are all limited to the size of our screens, most people would be covered by a maximum image size of 1600 pixels or less, and a resolution of 96dpi.

    Something to think about.

I just wanted to share this photo of the first man I ever loved. Sometimes he let me down, and I know I let him down from time to time, but he always loved me, and I him. I measure all other men against his character, and I miss him every day. This is my favourite photo ever of him. I have no idea who took it, or when it was taken.

  • Jackie Clark,

I just realised how creepy that last post of mine sounds. That's my Dad, just so we're clear! Not some old geezer....
