  • Biobbs,

How fantastic to see that Luke Hurley is still going strong. Great memories of listening to him while relaxing in the sun in Vulcan Lane many years ago.

Oh very funny. I seem to be shouldering the blah.

    Lucky I had a haircut.

  • Christopher Dempsey,

I enjoyed the OGB (my first), and meeting Jackie Clarke, Scott (he of the delightful wit), and the lovely Hillary Stace from Wgton, there along with her sister and nephew, and Sofie and her partner.

The one striking memory I have is during the discussion when Russell asked a question about history. And that word just rolled around in my mind for some minutes afterwards, for the context of the question seemed to invoke a whole constellation of Western European cultures and I was busy thinking about History with capital H. Perhaps it's the academic in me.

The other memory is the amazing video that accompanied singer/rapper Loui the Zu. An otherworldly (it seemed to be shot in the deep ocean, so it was otherworldly) creature floating in water, roiling and folding. Magical backdrop to the Loui the Zu.

    Thanks for organising it Russell!

  • Russell Brown,

One thing I think needs to go on record is that Logan Duff mixed the music for Cut Collective's piece live and on the fly -- he'd never seen the video before!

He told me afterwards he was just watching and trying to anticipate where it would go next. You really could not tell.

    +1
I remember him from Uni orientation almost 20 years ago. He looks remarkably unchanged!

Well described Christopher. It was hard to capture too much of the videos because it felt intrusive with a camera but none the less, I managed to incorporate it in some places and it really felt necessary to capture that sort of feeling that you describe by photographing the vids.
    Jus’ sayin’ ;)

also here it looks like Loui's hand is disappearing into the body of water....

Excellent. So much on the night seems to flow endlessly and we fritter around from one room to others and don't imagine what's involved in the setting up, except for the side twitters I catch on the PAS threads to it's lead up. It really works well, with all contributers proving their talents at any one time. An observation of mine is there seems to be a "leave all stress at the door" sign before you enter. I like that. You do it well RB. You should feel very proud of yourself.

Aw, thank you. I was actually a bit angry about the number of no-shows early on – the venue had been strict about capacity, and that had meant I had to say no to people who wanted to come along. It was annoying to see empty seats at the sides.

But eventually, I realised that that didn’t actually matter to anyone else – it just made it easier to get to the bar. I missed out on chatting to a lot of people I knew, but I had a really good time – especially after the show. Keegan did a brilliant job up in the Safari Room, the now-traditional tour of the bowels of the Civic was as a great as ever, and we went up to Cut Collective’s studio off K Road for a little after-party. The amazing new Bizdojo Makerspace was open next door too – I’m quite keen on using that place for something cool. Just need to work out what.

If you get him to a pub he'll play requests for hours as long as the jug in front of him is kept in beer. Fun nights in the distant past.
