There remains a rueful grubby sameness for early morning Aucklanders.

True. Take the train along the Western or Southern lines to see it. But some parts of twenty-first century Auckland – College Hill for example – may never look this grubby again. Photo from 1985.

Wondering which thread this picture belongs on....
could go on Autumn, it was taken in autumn....
but Eyes in a city seems more appropriate

this is the same building as the 'blinking eyes'
    this time with mirror shades

Photos from Gary's Unseen City book and more are going on show at Te Uru gallery in Titirangi, alongside a rare Rodney Charters film that features an unreleased LaDeDa's soundtrack

Thanks for that Karen. Here's the link to the film on the Ngā Taonga site, including some commentary by Rodney Charters:

" ... We used a Fiat 500 lent to us by Bob Harvey. We took the door off for low angle tracking shots and could shoot 360 degrees by opening the roof. The Auckland band the La De Das agreed to lend us their music. They also did covers of the Yardbirds ... It was shown at the Sydney film festival in 1967. I achieved entry into the Royal College of Film on the basis of this film ... "

Been up to Titirangi to see the Gary Baigent Exhibition. 20 photos from Eyes in a City, Rodney Charters Film Exercise and Robert Ellis’ great drawings.
There is still time, it’s on at Te Uru gallery next to Lopdell House till mid August.
This weekend there was a panel discussion about the works, the life and times. A good sized gathering of Gary, Rodney and Robert’s contemporaries.

    Robert Ellis
    Gary Baigent
    Ian Wedde and Rodney Charters
