A shot over the Pacific, where it is the great water to the west.

Nice. Thanks for posting it here.

Yep, we got skies across the Pac.

    And skies across the land..

And at the edge of the Atmosphere. {:)

Winter was back in January and this was a stormy evening

Here's one from up your way a few winters back. The sky was kinda second to Mt Rainier on the day.

    Once by the Pacific

The shattered water made a misty din.
Great waves looked over others coming in,
And thought of doing something to the shore
That water never did to land before.
The clouds were low and hairy in the skies,
Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes…

Brilliant. Did you go along the road and step on to the very small puddles and make them squeak as the ice breaks?

  • Hilary Stace,

Checked out the ice skating rink in the square in Palmerston North today. It looked like the one that was last in Wellington. It was packed with people on the ice (all ages) and watching. However, more interesting was a tree nearby with a plaque on the ground (I took a photo with my phone but it didn't come out very well) with the fading words

'This tree was planted by the people of Palmerston North on 8 November 1975 to celebrate the inauguration of our campaign to create an ideal society. When 5% of our population are practising the transcendental meditation technique of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, crime, sickness and unhappiness will disappear and the age of enlightenment will be established'.

Unfortunately, I don't think the good people of Palmerston North took up the opportunity.

And there’s no minimum age for pirates. These ones on Quail Island (in the summer!)

I gather the weather’s been wild on the West Coast. Here in Otautahi we’ve had a Norwest day with some strange clouds.

People sometimes say, “There’s no such thing as a wrong cloud!”

I think these ones are pretty wrong. :-)

Great shots Lilith. Some very unique shapes up there morning, sho' nuff. Just briefly it was possible to believe that a few major alpine peaks had come adrift and were serenely drifting up & away.

Great captures Lilith I was driving from Brighton to town this morning and saw some amazing fringes and feathery edges on the nor'west arch.

Great shots Lilith. I just started reading another Iain M. Banks novel, The Algebraist. The centre one is other worldly in the extreme.

Lake Rotoiti in the morning light

Rotoiti is so beautiful. (this is the one near Rotorua, yes?)
I've only seen it in the misty rain, but it's beautiful then, too.

Just because I can, here is our Rotoiti (St Arnaud), on a stormy evening. :-)
