    Morning dew on the Aloe

As they stood on the steps, the high grassy bank on which the aloe rested rose up like a wave, and the aloe seemed to ride upon it like a ship with the oars lifted. Bright moonlight hung upon the lifted oars like water, and the green wave glittered the dew.
"Do you feel it. too," said Linda, and she spoke to her mother with that special voice that women use at night to each other as though they spoke in their sleep from some hollow cave -- "Don't you feel that it is coming towards us?"

Well just to keep it fresh, and since dogs don't have their own part of this blog yet, and entirely keeping with the theme of this thread: Ruby and I spent a few hours with some very dear friends of mine. (Sharp Frames, Cockburn Rd, Grey Lynn - excellent art framer. Gotta get the plug in!)

  • Islander, in reply to Jackie Clark,

May I ask, as someone who is quite hand-oriented, if the Sharp friend is aware of how extremely unusual her hand is?
And hey! The dog is a friendly beauty!

I don't know if she is, Islander! I shall apprise her of your opinion, tomorrow. Mind, I've known her hand for over 30 years so I never noticed.
And yes, the ruby is a very friendly beauty. Most of the time.

ALL dogs are most of the time!
I do not forget the occaision when one of my younger brother’s dogs (an adolescent
great dane) decided to bale me up – I kicked it hard in the arse and my brother came out and hugged me – and kicked it again. Dogs are a species that learn from dominance.
My family have always appreciated the company of cats and dogs – we love them.
But- we never let them get the boss hand-

Islander you are so right. I love the way you decided to stop that dane bailing you up. People tend to forget not everyone loves a dog blocking their path and barking at them.
'Oh he wont bite' might be true for them but not for anyone else.
Keeping the upper hand is so important, children or dogs. Amen

    Enclosed our pet.
