Yes couldn't have done them better myself, a mere 6 1/2 acres.... of bush

Wonderful trees! I have mamaku envy.

I’m sorry to report that your wonderful fernlets have succumbed to the cold and wet: the soil has been sodden and very cold since the beginning of March. Lots of things are turning up their toes.

Very true. Lovely set of fronds unwinding.

I'm back North Saturday. Look forward to seeing the place. News of the weather problems should come to light with a pint at pub. Our webcam indicates we seem ok. Good thing we got solar power as 1100 homes up there have had their power cut. The trees are protecting us :)

one thing I’m really noticing this winter is the way the bare trees shine – especially in late afternoon light (I’m not up early enough, don’t ask me about morning light)..

Morning light (first two photos taken at a more civilised hour than the colour one below).

And despite the colouring, this did not turn out to be a good omen for the Dutch national football team (taken 4:50ish am Beijing time during the half-time break).

Maybe better luck if they'd played in your neighborhood Chris?
