Will do. I recall there was a restaurant on the opposite corner but not much else.

She’s getting more confident with the dog…

And I didn't get any bees with my flowers, but I did get a flower dance (try again, get the cropped photo without half her Mummy's right elbow and hip).

Our haul. Ahem. Their haul. While, I hauled it back home from the orchard, as in my father in law tied the sack closed and put it in the boot of the car. Alright, me and the wee one played while the others actually picked the dates.

We also have apples, although not many at this stage. I know, wrong season...

Chris, she is ADORABLE! And wearing pants to match the flowers. :-)

    Wow, are those red dates?

  • Chris Waugh, in reply to Lilith __,

Yes, indeed, 红枣/hóngzǎo/red dates. They grow around the edges of my father in law's apple orchard. And these ones you can eat straight from the tree - no chemicals. I'm no great fan of red dates, myself, but they are quite good in rice porridge.

How fantastic! My Mum used to buy them (dried) when I was a kid but I haven't seen them for many years. They're lovely chopped in sandwiches. As I recall they're less sweet and more flavourful than the middle-eastern variety.

I live pretty close to the equator so we just rotate through rainy and dry spells - the locals are fascinated by the idea of seasons! Even though its not officially spring here I'm still excited about my newly blooming orchid! But I thought I'd share this - have no idea what it is called but it is some type of Heliconia - related to the banana and birds of paradise.

Welcome, um, Kt? What a stunning flower to get us started. First poster from Colombia, as far as I know. We look forward to more contributions from you.

    Cheers.

    Dawn, this chilly morning.

And when I turned around I saw this intriguing little wisp of mist hanging over the back end of the village, utterly motionless.

I want one. Nice Heliconia. Have a plant that I need to repot and bring North as it’s warmer up here than Auckland and consequently struggling there. For now , the bush is fine.

Your orange heliconia is the same species I have but mine is red. They are a truly beautiful Plant, all species!
