I think you need to come home for a summer.
No, we just had a summer, and for all my whingeing I actually prefer the winter. One can always put more clothes on....
"Home", heh, a rather troublesome little word.

Yesterday, birds of a feather…
But....that's a thrush and a blackbird, mortal enemies?

Ben, these two hang out on our deck together all the time. None of my birds squabble ;) look at these 2 although not great photos ,you get the gist…
and forget the dirty floor.
The blackbird comes in every day when the door is open. I closed it one morning to find shrieks coming from my Dracaena Marginata. A wax eye was sitting on one of its branches.Suffice to say he wasn't too happy about staying in all day. Suffice to say, thoughts went to birdshit everywhere. -

You're inviting birdshit! I learned that the hard way when I thought it might be cool to let some lost ducks live on our back lawn. Pretty soon every exterior surface was covered in shit and I couldn't get rid of the ducks, they didn't want to go. I ended up having to actually chase them around with a broom, screaming, until they decided to push off.

I leave the door open because we have a dog! That is dog food not bird food. I throw out a bit of older bread for them over the deck, they still come back. Greedy lil' sods :)
They don't shit unless you scare them and I've been there done that. Its easier all round to let them have a wee snack and go on their merry way. -

Ditto!
I once had a pipiwharauroa/shining cuckoo roost in the top of the pole that holds up my roof (a seawashed/seabourne totara.) It didnt crap the entire night - and I felt so honoured by its presence (me & pipiwharauroa go back a loooong way.)
The blackbirds that hop in & out of my front (seaward)door never crap inside either-

Speaking of duck shit all over your lawn…
Chicken shit in the kitchen here; Bossy and Rocket are looonely now their two companions have carked it, so they come inside whenever they can. I count mysellf fortunate they do not want to sit on the couch and watch TV with their people like my friend’s chook does.
