  • Sacha, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

I think they are over-stadiaing their case

every religion needs churches (in this case, mainly paid for by the public)

I like the general gist of of the plan very much.

Like you, Hebe, I'm not keen on having the convention centre on the square: the problem with the square as it was pre-quake, was that the locals didn't go there: it was a tourist ghetto. Let's not make that mistake again!

I think the park frame is lovely, as long as there are good connections with the suburbs: we need excellent public transport, biking facilities and strategially-placed parking buildings so that people can park and then get about the centre easily. Otherwise we'll re-create the situation where people would rather go to suburban malls where the parking is easier.

Love all the parkland along the river. And let's hope, as you say Hebe, that green corridor can run all the way to the estuary.

which are apparently in the *next* 100 days of planning. Somewhat arse-backwards. For now you get a big bus interchange on the edge of the cbd rather than the centre, and some mention of cycleways, bike storage and carparking buildings. All the green space looks promising for cycling and walking.

Some families have had no concrete time frames from their insurances.Speaking to a few of them they have been told it could be five to seven years before things are settled.

Politicians either national or regional are ignoring the dilemma of the eastern suburbs.

    So true.

I feel so lucky to be in a liveable house; but that bone-shaking goat-track from Sumner through to Ferrymead is driving us crazy.

The transport solutions are key. Otherwise no-one will go there except tourists. We need free shuttle-buses and loan bikes in the central city, co-ordinating seamlesssly with the parking and city bus facilities.

The future? Posters of the Dear Leader, on demand video of Dear Leader. Reminds me of the North Korean bus trip a few months ago where a load of journos took the wrong turning and ended up in suburbs of spavined natives, grimy and unkempt houses and muddy tracks for roads…..

That the blueprints for rebuilding the central city takes priority while families are still in limbo and struggling financially is reprehensible.

This, is what keeps entering my head everytime I read of rebuilding Chch. I think it was really sad to see and watch Police practising their terrorist commando activities in Burnside last week, blowing up abandoned houses when people still live in the Street.
Comment, "there was a flyer delivered to warn them we were doing this "
My comment " why not fuck off and leave already fragile traumatised cold people and their suburb to those rebuilding it rather than playing commando games, that which they condemn from others."
No, Convention Centre, why not Monorail, could be an episode of the Simpsons.

I agree this is getting worse by the year. When i look at those photos of people with toddlers in the rain trying to get justice and answers from those who represent them it makes me think this is no democracy. As a Christchurch ratepayer each one of those in the rain would be entitled to take part in this charade of a blueprint release. Bob Parker does know he behaves like a bully as does JK and Brownlee. Shame on them.

Cap it all, my dear... what's on?

    ...Sherlock Holmes hat?

Dear Stalker, this is a Sherlock Holmes hat

and off the top of my head, in truth (insofar as fiction can ever be truth) he seldom wore an earflapped travelling cap...

Mine is an Italian-made flat cloth cap, which I inherited from my Dad...

    Dear Stalker

    To quote Sherlock

Holmes: “Is it a cap? Why’s it got two fronts?”

    Watson: “It’s a deerstalker.”

Holmes: “You stalk deer with the hat? What you gonna do, throw it? Some sort of death frisbee?"
