    Vanishing points...*

...the trouble with Christchurch is that many houses on the streets are there no more and leaving large stretches of it looking you are on a country road

I've just put together a set of 16 cards of Victorian Chchch, for Smith's Bookshop, from photos they own - Chch looking empty in some, and the building of buildings now gone (either before the earthquakes or since), street scenes from the Cathedral, Lyttelton (before the fire I think) - fascinating stuff - so head on out to the Tannery Emporium container shops for stocking stuffers for the antiquarian in your life - I think they're $25 a set...

    * aka a shameless self-serving plug!

I'm just the designer/printer for these ones, but I'll sort something out with Smith's for you, they should probably put them on the website...
    I'll email you tomorrow.

Let them have and eat cake…
Meanwhile we will all be heartened to hear that all out wonderful long suffering politicians have been forced to take another pre-Christmas pay rise…

Mr Key said the Remuneration Authority had recommended a “small increase’’.
“It seems to be in line with the national average, maybe slightly lower, so I’ve written back saying in principle we’re comfortable with that,’’ he told 3 News.
The pay rise, to be confirmed on Thursday, would be back-paid – giving politicians a Christmas lump sum.

OK, there are a few who might actually deserve it, while others will just laugh all the way to the TAB, or Hawaii…

Imagine if Ministers had to take a pay cut every time they refused to front for interviews, or refused to listen to their own experts. Some would be in negative salary by now.

  • Hebe,

Happy, happy: the South Library reopened today. On our way to the orthodontists to get the bad news (times two; ouch), we stopped and admired the South's new bright red braces. Picture tomorrow.

    Ship of fools....

Imagine if Ministers had to take a pay cut every time they refused to front for interviews, or refused to listen to their own experts.

That is a damn fine idea - And what about Hekia Parata not fronting while her portfolio and ministry is in major crisis, I'd have thought being on holiday wouldn't be an excuse, when you are paid (with a wee raise as well) to do the hard jobs... None of the Associate Ministers seem to have put their heads above the parapet recently either - is John Banks an Albatross,? He seems to curse everything he is associated with!

How does this Government arrive at these decisions - they say they don't have money and need to save money by making cuts, and then they effectively fire someone who will cost them a million dollars at least in severance because the only recently blooded Minister is hard to work with - can we be shown the logic in this, step-by-step?

Aside from the fact that the current woesomely-incumbent governpeople are incompetent, selfserving & aware of the axe coming - they just dont care. They've raked off their chunk, ensured their lackies got paid, and have NO sense of realising how history will deal to them...tiresome arrogant self-centred wee shits whose names will only be associated with disasters from the johnkey to the peteredout-

I agree with everything you write. We just have to look who gets those jobs? Key a Banker? Where does that connect him to New Zealand.? A born opportunists who would gladly sell the last tree standing if it made him money. I do feel perhaps a few years as intern beside seasoned good politicians followed by exams for a portfolio and grades to advance their position might be something to start with. To get cunning strategist from overseas is almost treason. When you observe the fall out in the Education Department it is gob smacking how they operate.
