  • giovanni tiso,

I mean, yes, it would be cooler if the NZ Māori toured New Zealand in a series against a nation like Japan or Italy

They'd barely work up a sweat against Italy. Give them some decent opposition, I say.

The Pacific Islands would be awesome. Imagine if they played that match in Auckland - the atmosphere would be incredible.

But failing that how about Scotland? Better than Italy, probably a good chance that they would send their best players.

  • Gareth Ward,

Friend at work updated me from Cricinfo:
"Ryder's on 197, but it will take a while to hit 200 cause he's crawling. Or he'll get out hahahaha"
    5 seconds later...
"4! There ya go, good work. Commentary says Focus. Concentration. Patience. Oodles of class."
    5 seconds later...
    "Wait, out..."

    =?

  • stephen walker,

re: Ichiro, i am glad you cleared that up for me, because i have been too lazy to look at any MSM sports news to find out what happened. i walked past a pub the other day at lunchtime during the final and there seemed to be a lot of cheering and gasping going on...
and glancing at various headlines on the train in the last day or two suggested that Ichiro had done something quite good. but now i know. thanks. saved me from having to look through news.google.co.jp

just to bore you a bit more about Ichiro, i used to watch baseball on TV a bit (up until a couple of years ago) and for years i used to say to people that i wish he would hurry up and ditch this baseball hobby and become a proper batsman. his ability to see the ball early and his hand-eye co-ordination is so good, he does not look at all like any other baseball player i have ever seen. he looks like a Crowe or a Gower or a Lara, except with a funny round bat sticking up in the air. He would be a natural. Quick, someone tell Lalit Modi to buy Ichiro off the Mariners!

And, BTW, well done Ryder, Taylor (and Franklin) and hopefully another ton from McCullum!

  • Stuart Coats,

    @ Stephen
Currently the Indian bowling attack to McCullum is Sehwag and Yuvraj so he should get there..... (kiss of doom)

  • Kyle Matthews,

Your (not clearly spelt out) theory about contracted players seems rather weak given the performance of some of our other batsmen at times.

    I totally support this

    lol.

ISS even did a Madonna concert recently.

Middle-aged woman acting very lewd and walking around only in her bra. Oh, wait, it's Madonna.

(Okay, so I made that one up.)

  • Kyle Matthews,

    Vettori dropped.

If India had taken a decent number of catches this innings, we could have all been out for under 400.

McCullum makes it and I breathe a sigh of relief

  • stephen walker,

    and just before tea, too!
well done the man from Otago

(i hate to rain on this parade, but if NZ can put on 600-odd, how easy will it be to bowl out India once? twice? ouch)

    Yeah not likely.

But if NZ can declare 650+ and put India in for 10 or so difficult overs before stumps, at least it puts pressure on India and makes the only possible result a win or a draw. Few early wickets, game is on.

Even if India batted for two innings and got 400 in each, it would only leave us 150 to get (assuming the time works out).

  • Simon Poole,

... and Vettori brings up his 50 and NZ's 600 in the same stroke.

Back to more personally pertinent things: Attend the Derby if you are in Wellington tomorrow night! I have watched the girls train for almost a year and a half and the bigger the crowd the more fun it'll be for everyone.

I undestand there is a seating capacity, and if it's reached people will be turned away - so get in quick once the doors open!

    See you all there.

Tell ya what, How, Guptill and McIntosh must be feeling a bit like muppets at about this point.

  • Simon Poole,

noizy, I made the exact same observation to a workmate about an hour and a half ago.

I can't believe they brought in How.

... and McCullum goes for 115, following Vettori who went for 55.

    Time to declare, methinks.

  • Hadyn Green,

just to bore you a bit more about Ichiro

I cut a large bit out of the original post because I figured (rightly) you'd all rather talk about the cricket. But it was all about how the first baseball game I saw was the day I landed in Osaka for a school trip and the bus driver had it on while we were stuck in traffic on the motorway

  • stephen walker,

why didn't Vettori declare when McCullum went out?
one of those NZ bowlers could get hurt out there!
(all for the sake of a couple of runs?)

  • JackElder,

Individual pursuit is pretty dramatic, yeah, but compared to a Madison or Keirin? There's significantly less threat of crashing in a pursuit. That said, go Alison!

Personally, I'm just annoyed that the kilo sprint was dropped from the Olympics.
