  • Steve Barnes,

Perhaps the Government could take over running the trains...
While they are at it they could Nationalise the Electricity Industry and the Banking and Insurance sector.
    Go Comrade Key.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Steve & Sasha: your bickering session is going ok, but I'd suggest taking a few lessons from the real pros at this.

  • DexterX,

IMHO - The whole RWC downtown event - the Great Booze up Party Central emphasis, the transport failure and finger pointing, the lack of toilets, the Waka crew crowding and assault and when they returned to the Waka they found they had been used as receptacles for discarded beer bottles and cigarette buts - has become churlish in the extreme.

4 years of planning and this is the face we present.

I was really saddened to read this aspect of it all. Having felt like NZ culture/biculture was well and truly represented... what the hell to make of this? Kids and women abused by drunks, just not on, not ever.

  • Just thinking, in reply to merc,

I don't see those jackets outside of circus performances like "share an idea". Truth be told Gerry has to get everything made for him, so it may not happen for Murray McF*&k-up.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    What goes around...
Meanwhile at the centre of our Solar System...*
Spaceweather starts today's posting with the marvellous sentence -
"A comet is diving into the sun today."
It seems to be unnamed - so I'd like to name it 'The National Party'
    (movie here)

*Which surprisingly, is only occupied by a yellow dwarf star (no not Rodney Hide) and not Murray McCully nor John Key, much as they'd like to have you believe otherwise...

  • Ian Dalziel,

    the usual suspects...
In amongst all McCully's finger-pointing, Dave Dobbyn must be relieved he hasn't been blamed for the breakdown of the waterfront event... ;- )

Is there a new big little slogan in the wind:
Auckland - the city of fails?

Kids and women abused by drunks, just not on, not ever.

Meanwhile the Godwits arrive back in Chchch today.
Here's hoping the F*ckwits don't return to Ak's Fanzone on friday...

Well, considering I was part of the sudden press to get to the other side of the big screen that was working, and I only did it to see Dobbyn, it can't be long. But blame me? Hell no. I'm apparently an unwitting victim of organizational incompetence, and the only dispute is who the buck stops with. Council, Cup organizers, Government, international capitalism, the patriarchy?

I'm quite surprised to hear of incidents towards the Maori procession, although they were certainly crowded. Also surprised to hear about drunks and cigarette butts, since I saw a grand total of one smoker, and didn't see any alcoholic drinks on display at all. The waka were moored in the Viaduct, so perhaps people from the bars got to them, in which case bar security were extremely remiss in allowing them to leave with drinks in hand. In fact, studying my own photos of the viaduct, all of the waka are at least 15 feet away from the crowd, so how they came to get cigarette butts in them is beyond me, unless the crowd were unleashed onto the actual landings at some point, which I find extremely unlikely. Beer bottles would have to have been thrown in from a distance. There are no independent reports of any unruliness like this, so it sounds a lot like exaggeration to me. Considering there were upwards of 100,000 cameras in the area at the time, I'll start believing it when I see some of it.
