  • BlairMacca,

As long as we don't play in grey/silver it will be ok. Going to the Ireland v Russia game should be a gooden.

I realised today that the All Blacks POTENTIAL semi final is on a Sunday night at 9pm kick off. There are going to be a few people calling in sick on Monday if we win. Or even if we lose.

  • Richard Wain,

That article you linked to on the French strip says:

in all likelihood will have to wear their change shirt due to a clash with the All Blacks' black shirts

  • Peter Darlington,

I think the Italians lucked out in this draw; not only do they get to stay in sunny Nelson (craft brewing capital of New Zealand) but they also get two fairly good chances at victory. They could become the darlings of the upper South Island. The Russians can just enjoy the weather.

It's going to be fab, my first World Cup of any persuasion. I'm booked in with my kids to see the Aus-Russia match and we will stand side by side with our post-Soviet brethren and give Quade and Co the big one handed salute. Think there might be a few tries in this one as well.

Tossing up about the Italy-USA match too because, like you, I suspect it might be a cracker. And afterwards our boring little town might be filled up with a few partying foreign people. Which would be nice.

  • Russell Brown,

Fiji – Samoa: When two island nations play each other all hell can break loose. Great fun for the neutrals, especially with two opposing haka to start the game (I use “haka” as a generic term here).

Public Address will be in da house for that one. Me and Fiona, Ben recordari ... anyone else going?

Auckland is the best place in the whole world for this match to take place. Yay.

  • Richard Wain,

Fiji-Samoa, fuck yeah! Have had my (bloody pricey) tickets for some time now... shouting a mate for his birthday. Going to be a heckuva game methinks, probably crucial for both teams' chances of progressing further in the RWC...

  • Emma Hart,

My partner is looking for random teams to back against my beautiful Irish boys, and my perennial reasonless support for Canada. Russia look like a go for a start.

    Where is "Rugby Park"?

    Which one?

    it's pretty generic

  • Yamis,

Yep, not a lot of imagination went into it. Southland play at Rugby park and there's a Rugby Park in Christchurch as well. I'm guessing there's several others around the country for further confusion.

I'm looking out for a "Bollocks Park" where people go to kick their balls round.

What about England Scotland at Eden Park on 1st October? Wouldn't it be hilarious to see Jonny Wilkinson miss a sitter as England go down 9-6?

You don't think France will throw that pool game against the All Blacks?

  • Tom Semmens,

this should be a good, hard-hitting affair and that will just be in the crowd.

    Edited for truth.

  • Tom Semmens,

Oh and we’ve found a distant relation twice removed in Dunners, so the road trip to watch Italy-Ireland is back on. The fact that we are somewhere between eight and ten in number and are merely allocated floor space in the lounge for our blow up mattresses is neither here nor there, it is a roof and it keeps us off the streets.

Do they have electricity in Dunedin for domestic use?

And a German friend of mine here for the cup just got back from Wellington. he used “compact”, “quaint” and “little” in his glowing description of the capital, words I encouraged him to use often and loudly when talking to locals whilst he is down there for some matches.

a lot of decisions, but just not enough thought.

Sounds like Nact to me, just add "Urgency"

yes we have electricity - best not to mention rugby to random strangers though - for some it's a bit of a touchy subject

That is going to make explaining why we are talking in fake Irish accents and wearing silly bright green top hats with shamocks on them quite difficult.

Sounds like the Cookathon. Now history of course, but you'll still pass.

the Cook itself may also be heading for history depending on who (ie maybe the Uni) ends up buying it - all that Dunedin sound played there

  • John Campbell,

Yes, I agree Hadyn. Wales v. Samoa in Hamilton - that really could be a wonderful game of rugby. (Go Samoa!) It's a great ground when there's a crowd in and they give a damn. The Lions v. Maori match in 2005 was amongst the most stirring games of rugby I have ever attended. The crowd were very nearly as magnificent as the Maori team. And I hope they'll get behind Samoa to a similar extent.

And RB - Fiji v. Samoa at Eden Park. Yes, what a cracker! I'll be there with my boy. Can't wait.
