  • giovanni tiso,

(It's actually fine. And I've hated every single site redesign since Gutenberg. My gravatar now looks like dirt though, will have to change it.)

  • Steve Parks, in reply to David Cormack,

One complaint I do have though is I just re-read my old comments.

Yeah I also find that a bit disconcerting. (Re-reading my old comments, that is, not yours.)

Another slightly odd feature is that whenever you hover the cursor over a post (say, to copy some text) the message “flag as inappropriate” comes up. It almost feels like a suggestion: “Go on, flag Russell’s comment as inappropriate, you know you want to”.

Anyway, speaking of looking back at old posts, was this the first ever PAS comment, then?:

    The Bish goes Wham!

Posts may be edited for 15 minutes after submission.

Much longer at the moment, it seems. See my post of 20.26, Nov 11.

  • nic.wise,

I love the three-down-to-one stuff if you make the window narrower. Very nice.

  • Lucy Stewart,

“Go on, flag Russell’s comment as inappropriate, you know you want to”

We start that, we might as well just flag the whole site as inappropriate and get it done with, given a few threads we've had. (But. You know. The awesome kind of inappropriate.)

  • Jolisa,

Good morning from the other side of the world!

Wow. Amazing transformation, and a lovely thing to wake up and see! It’s like that one April Fool’s Day when we rearranged all my sister’s bedroom furniture, including the bed. While she was asleep. In the bed.

Just like that, except without the waking-up-screaming bit.

(Bug-spotting note: from where I sit, everyone apparently posted “seconds ago.” Or is it a late-night PAS clusterhug, NZT, and you’re all still awake?)

(And echoing Lucy & Steve – the hovering “flag as inappropriate” prompt is catnip to the subconscious, or the too-quick clicky finger)

(Speaking of catnip, beta testing of new site so far suggests urgent demand for a Kitteh of teh Day corner)

    Edited, because I could.

  • George Darroch,

And I’ve hated every single site redesign since Gutenberg. - Giovanni.

I had to turn the screen-brightness down, because the large white space was giving me headaches. I'd hate to think that what it would be like with AdBlock enabled. The font doesn't quite feel right, but I wonder if that's just a function of excessive familiarity. First and last are a little confusing.

Those are the extent of my gripes, but otherwise it's very much nice and easy.

  • George Darroch,

Simon's site needs a link update on the sidebar too.

Also, reading one's comments from years ago induces a degree of nostalgia.

No, bug; I see my last post as seconds ago, and it was more like two hours.

I’d hate to think that what it would be like with AdBlock enabled.

Really, really white. A herd of polar bears could be hiding on the screen and you'd never know. (Hmm. Herd sounds wrong. What is the collective noun for bears, anyway?)

  • Jackie Clark,

And may I just say - stop whingeing, you lot. Anything new takes time to bed in.

It’s like that one April Fool’s Day when we rearranged all my sister’s bedroom furniture, including the bed. While she was asleep. In the bed.

Just like that, except without the waking-up-screaming bit.

    Jolisa, I love you.

  • Megan Wegan,

I'm late to the party (as always) but...

But the culture that makes this place work won’t change. The ability to show respect for others, even in the course of vigorously disagreeing with them – and to let grudges go – is crucial on Public Address. As is the valuing of knowledge. Not for the first time, I’ll quote Gordon Dryden: “Don’t give me your opinion – give me your experience.”

Frankly, as long as we keep doing that, we could be doing this on the back of an envelope, as far as I am concerned. So the fact that it is all shiny and pretty and new is a bonus.

Oh, but being able to click on my name and see my old comments. Well. That's going to make it easier for people to mock me. Is that what you want, Russell? Is it?

  • Rich of Observationz,

What's with the font? It seems to have stripes of bold, on FF3.6.12.

Is that the way the cool kids roll nowadays....

  • Rich of Observationz,

Also, doesn't work well with Android Opera. Guess I should be thankful it doesn't just display an Apple order form...

  • matthewbuchanan, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Rich, there's an option to disable the webfont in the bottom right corner if it's not to your taste. Development effort has been focused on desktop browsers and Webkit for mobile, and we'll continue to improve support for other platforms as resource allows.

  • BenWilson,

Looks really good. Well done CactusLab. Only actual bug I’ve discovered – browsing my old posts, I notice the old ones are all to be found in the “newer” direction.

    Edit <practice> underline bold

  • Kyle Matthews,

What I like about the bigger avatars is that finally I can see the photos some have used for theirs – like Kyles. Love that dog, Kyle!

He had two fits yesterday and spent the day with the vet. Seems to be OK now... but no answers yet as to what caused them :(

hmmm… hate to be a stickler (again), but this might have spotted another bug.

i was pretty sure the first first ever comment was mine </not bragging>, but it isn’t showing up in the comment history?

  • Hilary Stace,

Yay for the big font (BTW Emma, I like comic sans as it reminds me of very good teacher writing on blackboards, and I always use it on power point).

I like the email and twitter links. Russell, please could you add humans to the links. Even though there are only occasional postings, they are a useful archive. (Giovanni, Philip and I went to the Education select committee on Wednesday to hear what the Ministry was doing re national standards and kids with autism, which has been an ongoing saga since raised on PA almost two years ago. The answers were not conclusive. Seems if kids who have regular Individual Education Plans as they get ORRS funding, don't need to do standards, but the teachers still have to report to the board on where they could be on the standards. What the board does with this information is unclear. Kids with ASD without IEPs - which are the majority - well who knows? But at least the committee keeps asking. And there seems to be some new support for the first three years of schooling for kids with special needs.)

  • Jackie Clark, in reply to Kyle Matthews,

Oh, I am sorry, Kyle. Our baby girl is not well either, at the mo. She's just been diagnosed with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and Cushings Disease. Nothing some insulin and pills for the rest of her life (she's 10) won't fix. I hope the same can be said for your lovely fellow.

  • Megan Wegan, in reply to Hilary Stace,

At the top, in the middle (I guess) column, it should have a little box with your name and a link to "edit your profile". You can add them in there. :)
