  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Paul Williams,

In my very limited experience, Scandanavian people tend to have an oddily American accent.

In my equally limited experience, they don't have "American" accented English but the cut-glass diction is delightful. (A major reason why I know all the lyrics to a disturbing number of Abba songs.)

  • Hebe, in reply to Sacha,

I learned every single breath and stomp of Abba in the suburbs of Christchurch as a teenager. It came in useful a decade later when I was required to sing along at Patches and other cultural epicentres :-)

  • Rob Stowell, in reply to BenWilson,

virtually every good vocalist sings with an American accent.

Don’t tell David :) (From the Bridle Path manifesto)

    2. VOCALS

2.1. All vocals to be sung in a New Zealand accent (not necessarily a strong New Zealand accent, but definitely not a British or American accent).

  • andin,

infer statistically what they might be thinking. So if the innovation in the last 20 years of brain imaging is anything to go by, before we know it we may well have mind reading apps on our phones, and scanning tests on daytime TV!

So can we now infer statistically if someone is an arsehole!
    Scanning tests on daytime tv?
    Nek minnit!!

  • Nat, in reply to Paul Williams,

Loving First Aid Kit, but agree, would never have thought them Swedish. They're touring Sydney and am seeing them later this month... try the track Emmylou

I'm not really into altish.country either but could get tempted by First Aid Kit. I love this line from Emmylou Paul: "Now so much I know that things just don’t grow if you don’t bless them with your patience"

While we're on the topic of Swedish (are we still?), I spent a large part of yesterday trying to remember the name Taken by Trees
