Hard News: Friday Music: Back There Alone

  • David Hood,

I have been wasting so much time this week on the Infinite Jukebox (which was rather overwhelmed by the internet for the first few days of its life).
This site is a Chrome web browser thing. It takes an mp3, works out where the similar beats in it are so to construct alternate pathways through the track that should sound pretty seemless, then creates an infinite remix by randomly walking through the track (it seems to have about a 20% chance of taking an alternate route if available). It has a good visualiser too.
Because it can be somewhat overloaded (evening in NZ is good, as it is the early hours in the U.S. so most people are asleep) which stops uploading, here is a link to recent uploads by other people. When totally swamped, it was set to “Call Me Maybe” mode.
For example, Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill works rather well.

  • Chip Matthews,

Was stoked to get the SJD album yesterday (thanks Jim!) and man, it just made my night last evening. Amazing, beautiful, challenging, so awesome.

I'll even try and not be the hiding guy at the High Noon tomorrow Russell!

  • Luke Williamson,

    Blue spess . . . white clodes . . .
SJD is Noo Zillund's Thomas Dolby by the sound of this latest effort - I mean that in a nice way.
All the remixes just make me think that you can't beat the originals.
    I love this track.

I’ve been wanting to post this for a while. It was taken by Garth Kennedy in NZ in the 1970s, and I think it is wonderful.

  • George Darroch,

I'm always a few hours behind on these threads, and they pop up when I'm on a limited work connection (and like most days I don't have much specific to say or wondrous things to share today). I do have a question though: what do others use to test and try out musical equipment?

For various reasons I've had to buy several pairs of relatively inexpensive headphones in the last year, and some are better than others. I'm holding out for a better pair when I get to an electronics capital. So, I put on something with range, vocals, hundreds or thousands of listens, and which I love greatly...

(Video, because there's always someone who hasn't been endtroduced.)

  • George Darroch,

How excellent is SJD? That's good equipment-testing music there.

  • Dastardly Bounder,

Thanks for posting the link to my Desmond Dekker tribute! Downloads have gone through the roof and it's about to reach the 100 limit.
