  • Ian Dalziel,

That Gary Thain story is classic reportage, all the important facts – the address of his parents, and that he was married to an ‘English girl’, all very proper. (Though I am surprised that it doesn’t mention that he went to Xavier College, ‘old school’ was part of the news then too…)

…and in other breaking news, my faith in ‘the market’ sorting things out has been shattered – congrats to Matt and Jackson though on winning my two LP offerings last week – but I had hoped that there might have been more than one bid on each record – I might just take the rest to Galaxy or Penny Lane and avoid the disappointment in the future. - what to do?

Have to say I was shocked no one else bid on these gems. Maybe everyone was broke from buying overpriced Dylan and Springsteen vinyl at Record Store Day. I should have bid on the Fall record. I sadly only own the German bootleg version with the skip on "The Man Whose Head Expanded."

In other music news, David Kilgour and Sam Hunt have a new record out in just over a week and it deserves a plug here:

  • Mike O'Connell,

There are worse ways to spend $12.50 than to give it a try, believe me.

It's brilliant, It's one of those absolute standouts which will stand the test of time. Tono's a great storyteller both in his lyrics and the banter between songs.

Thes lyrics from Water Underground are particularity poignant for me. With a scientific background, having worked for this organisation when 'they were taken down' and soon thereafter drawing the short straw, they resonate strongly.

    called it a national crisis
you were in bed with the press
you understood from experience how to
make it fast and hard to digest oh you
    left them dumbfounded, unemployable
    chose their replacements yourself
all their science from the cities couldn't keep you
    from the water underground

Couldn't find a clip for Water Underground, but damn it, I could choose anything - Successor's that good. Here's 'Sugar In The Petrol Tank'.
