  • Stephen Judd,

Wow, the difference between McCain supporters and Obama supporters on the NYT wordtrain is amazing.

While you're all waiting let me introduce the One Velociraptor per Child initiative

"Mission Statement: To increase the Darwinian fitness of the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-energy, internet-enabled velociraptor with content designed for collaborative, practical, self-empowered survival."

  • Craig Ranapia,

The LGF comments threads are good reading as well.

No, Richard Condon's The Manchurian Candidate is good reading, even 49 years after it was first published. Condon was, however, a professional writer whose plots - however convoluted or even, on reflection, utterly absurd - were well-written and had enough internal consistency and narrative momentum to carry you on. Skills that are conspicuous by their absence among the wing-nut community.

Absurd maybe - but strangely appropriate to today's election - who could ever have imagined .... (and how could you tell he's not actually a 'Manchurian Candidate')

Excellent segue in the Manchurian Candidate there, Craig. What was McCain doing to pass the time in the jungles of Viet Nam?

we know the VC torturers broke him and forced a confession out of him - how do we know they didn't remake him as their future tool of world domination (well apart from that it was a book and not real - so far as we know ...)

Apologies if this has already been said…

But the thing that does my head in when following US elections is how they get the colours the wrong way round.

Even after all these years it still gets me when they go on about a “sea of Blue / red” states etc..

Why do they get everything wrong?

You see, I like that, because the wing-nuts are calling Obama a Manchurian Candidate. Because he's a programmed baby-eating Marxist terrorist, you know.

    Proof:

"Barack Obama was programmed for years by his atheist, Muslim father, by the communist sex pervert Frank Marshall Davis..."

Courtesy WND. It's how his father was both Muslim and atheist that I liked. Sorry, but I'm a firm devotee of the "so bad it's brilliant" school of commentary.

I guess that if political satire is dead, that should help the career of Flight of The Conchords and their unamerican, unpolitical satire.

We poisoned their asses. With poisonous gases.

The Times gives it to....James Buchanan. Leading the country to Civil War takes some doing. GWB is ranked 37th equal with a certain Richard Milhouse Nixon.

I'm a fan of William Harrison, who caught a chill at his inauguration and served only 32 days. Bush must have had 32 good days mixed in there...

Um, Jews, even the old ones in Florida, have been voting strongly Democrat since the 60s. Palm Beach is about the most liberal area of Florida, apparently. (Remember the 2000 US election and the butterfly ballot scandal - lots of Pat Buchanan votes recorded that should have gone to Gore). And Palin's rabid Christianity nixed McCain's chance of bringing them over. Of course Fish would have voted for Obama.

  • LegBreak,

Isn’t it ironic how the Democrats were able to wheel out all their failed candidates from campaigns past (Gore, Kerry, even Edwards) to good effect.

And the Republicans were forced to hide the guys that actually won those elections in some dark cupboard out the back of the White house.
