  • philipmatthews,

funnily enough, the da vinci code was also plagiarised from more scholarly texts with 'the holy blood and the holy grail' also seen fit to be banned and denounced thus equating the vatican with ngai tahu and its denouncement of song of waitaha with both books being essentially about lineage and myth as truth but in essence, the core truth remains

I'm just really, really looking forward to reading Islander's response to that ...

Or someone could just link to the conversation about exactly this topic only weeks ago. Please.

  • Islander,

I have read all Barry's books up to & including "Song of the Stone" ( and he organised his printer to send me a copy of "Song of Waitaha")

That is one of only 2 books I have hurled across my living upon finishing it. It was badly-written dreck. The exploitation of known poua and taua - yes, they were Kai Tahu by and large, and all of them conveniently dead by the time SoW was published - disgusted me. And Derek Llardelli's illustrations interestingly showed classic Maori carving et al.
Brailsford has repeatedly claimed that he is Rakaihautu reincarnated
(upsetting quite a number of people who trace back to that ancestor.)

Your comments about Io give me a good insight into your lack of understanding.

Here you go. Sacha is perfectly right: we have *done* this one, and there's no great need to do it again in this thread.

to be fair, it was lucys inference that suggested the comparison if you equate the da vinci code to song of waitaha and the catholic church to maori mythology.

what i find interesting is the underlying disownership and disunity of inter tribal lore amongst maori without acknowledgeing that their myths are co opted from a wider unified polynesian tradition.

it's like the 'maori flag' thing. "hey its your flag not ours even though we just live a couple clicks just up the road".

    wheres the PLUR ?

Your comments about Io give me a good insight into your lack of understanding -

i fear it is you that doesnt understand

your comments suggest you follow your head more than your heart

the head is sometimes wrong, the heart never is

sometimes the head will do wrong to teach the heart a lesson

if the heart doesnt learn, the head is doomed to repeat it
