  • Joe Wylie,

    . . . resist the temptation to make non-medical use of my cough syrup . . .

According to that link it sounds pretty resistable. You'd have to sink at least 250ml of vile-flavoured concoction just to reach the "fourth plateau", and still only experience stage one hallucinations, i.e. distortions of mundane reality. To make it worthwhile you'd expect to be able to see things that aren't even there.

  • BenWilson,

One cup of narsty-arse liquid wouldn't slow Russell down one little bit, the man drinks whiskey! He'd probably like it.

I've been trying various medz too this week, having a horrible cold. Of the legalz, Coldral day/night has been most effective for symptom relief. I did have to say to my chemist "Don't piss me around man, give me some of the good shit" before he'd even think about letting me have it. Sad times we live in.

Smoking anything is definitely out, the irritation from it outweighs all other goods. But vaporization is a different matter...

  • James Green,

    the good shit

It's a much over-looked point in the debate, but pseudoephidrine is a much better decongestant than phenylephrine. If you're pharmacist won't give you pseudo, there are a surprising number of other options, including most aphetamines and cocaine. Ritalin, LSD and psilocybin may also have some effect. Amusingly, caffeine is one of the few stimulants not likely to be useful...

  • BenWilson,

Congestion was improved by the Coldral, but the most marked improvement was the pounding headache and low energy levels were all but stopped, and the night formula has the antihistamines that relieve irritation and make you drowsy.

Caffeine has not helped at all, and curiously, I also haven't felt like it. The cold overpowers all withdrawal symptoms, and the Coldral is overpowering the cold. Maybe Coldral could be the wonder-drug for easing addicts off caffeine? :-)

  • James Green,

A couple of days on morphine and no coffee also seems to work. (Whether the pain of the surgery might overwhelm the withdrawal pain not controlled for)

  • BenWilson,

Surely morphine has even more severe withdrawal symptoms?

I don't think you read that right ...

**Fourth plateau:** At 15.0 mg/kg or more, an individual may experience a perceived loss of contact and control with their own body, changes in visual perception, out-of-body experiences, perceptions of contact with "superior," supernatural, or other archetypal beings (ie. gods, aliens, vampires, etc.), other miscellaneous delusions, lack of movement or desire to move, rapid heart rate, complete blindness, increased hearing, and intensification of third plateau effects.

    Yo.

DXM is the drug of choice in the US southern hip-hop scene. If I was 22, I'm sure I'd be necking a bottle to see what happened (in isolation, it doesn't seem to pose a significant risk to heath) . Now? Not so much.

  • JohnS,

I've been looking for an excuse to pass on a remedy for getting rid of that awful Telecom advt. that accompanies this blog and its threads. I guess a discussion on hallucinations might be the trigger!

If you are fortunate enough to be using the Firefox browser, go to the Mozzella site, add-ons, and download Flashback 1.5.7

All flash animations are gone -- replaced by an icon which if clicked will bring them back in all their "glory".

As they say in the low-class restaurants, "Enjoy!"

  • Crunchy Weta,

Do not use any syrup containing paracetamol - could be fatal. Be prepared for serious diaorrhea.
Line in the sand: I think the concept is great nut would have preferred one long continuous shot similar to Coldplay's "Yellow".
    Be well.

After extended use yes. If you're just on it for a couple of days then not so much.

Quite. It's amazing how many people actually are killed by ingesting paracetamol every year.

The five dollars took a little bit of finding. I had been looking for the words as starting letters or code rather than a link in you'll.

  • LIISA,

    Hi Russell,

Thanks for noticing Access All Areas: Headless Chickens Re-animated (more of Trevor Reekie's good work) and Bowie's Waiata as broadcast during Music 101 recently.

Just to let people know, the full version of Bowie's Waiata plays again tonight (Fri 28 Nov) at 7.30pm on Radio New Zealand National (heard on variations of 101FM in most places around NZ, also live streamed at www.radionz.co.nz) - I know its terribly old skool to tune in at a specific time, but this is the superior version - the audio-on-demand is different due to copy rights restrictions.

And we will be looking into your comments re Music AOD.

Wish I was in AK tonight.

    cheers
    LIISA

  • Joe Wylie,

I don't think you read that right ...

Weeeell . . . "changes in visual perception" doesn't quite strike me as full-on living-colour 3d with surround sound hallucinations. For that you'd need something with suspected side effects such as minor brain damage - and, probably, zero antitussinal properties. Whether a long-term impairment in the ability to read things right could be a worthwhile tradeoff for class-A hallucinations I no longer have the ability to say.

  • Paul Litterick,

I was quite impressed that you were not only banging on about Internet but banging on about Community. And look, here we are. In the intervening period, the giveaway CD has become standard for music magazines, as has web content, of course.

For reasons of copyright, as well as those of taste and decency, I did not publish the photograph accompanying the article. This showed you in a sweater tucked into baggy jeans with turnups; you were also wearing a beret. I assume this was during your Acid Jazz phase.

I read turnips. It was a very strange moment.

  • Shep Cheyenne,

On Radio NZ (buggar their marketing), whos boyfriend did Noelle steal to get knocked off the air? Some Jurno student who still has their uni login to use turnitin ?

I don't think she passed any of the work off as her own, just starters for the afternoon chat, most of which were refferenced.

FFS bring her back, she's good for a giggle. Fave line was something about asking if her guest had read lolita, when being hit on by the dirty/hopeful old man while live on air.

It damages the liver & kidneys. The notion of a panadol overdose i thought was just silly, but taken in large quantities it can certainly have that effect.
