  • Joanna,

Okay, I'll start, with the otter video. It makes me cry every single freaking time I watch it. It's like the Extreme Makeover Home Edition of cute animal videos:

  • Emma Hart,

Okay, fine, despite your using the phrase "hot corgi action", I shall go and look for pictures of unicorns that don't also feature naked men.

  • Jacqui Dunn,

    Yay, me first!

Loved the kittens, all of them!

Thanks. You've made me happy. (Is that enough happiness for starters?)

    ETA: Bugger. Too slow.

  • Lyndon Hood,

I have dealt with one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyl_cat.

They’re not exactly up to manipulating tools, but if one decides to lazily grab you it’s quite difficult to extract yourself.

Also, for those who missed: Unicorn – The New White Meat/Lawyerbait.

  • Sarah Wedde,

I'm unable to watch the accompanying video, and I've become quite cynical about the veracity of things that do the rounds on the internet, but I'm sticking my fingers in my ears, yelling "Na, na, na, na, I can't hear you", and believing this story of the faithful Japanese dog is real: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/858361-video-japanese-dog-leads-rescuers-to-injured-companion

  • Judi Lapsley Miller,

You can't go past a parrot if you want a smile - life's a party for them once you get them into a predator free environment.

Here's a vid I took last week of two kaka kiddies learning how to use a feeder at Zealandia. Too cute!

And then of course there is the fantastic news that we've now got 7 kakapo chicks this year despite the odds stacked against them. Here's a lovely diary entry including a squee-worthy photo of a tiny chick.

  • Mahal,

Friend of mine has a polydactyl cat. My favourite trick of hers? When presented with fat chips (especially KFC ones) she will sit back on her haunches like a squirrel, hold the chip between her front paws, and proceed to viciously lick all the salt off the chip. It is far too adorable for words.

  • Joanna,

It would be wrong to post a photo of my pussy with some sweet tongue action, right?

How about pictures of unicorns on naked men (and women)?

Some of them are probably NSFW.

  • Hilary Stace,

I'm not really into animal TV programmes but this Raising Baby series from our own Natural History NZ is wonderful. The orphaned baby gorillas are just so cute (and endangered). I'm sure Bobby would love the DVD.

  • Megan Wegan,

I have always had a fantasy of a library with dark wood and leather chairs and a basset hound curled in front of an open fire.

So it is with great glee, I share, via @saslockey on Twitter, Basset Hounds Running.

  • Craig Young,

They've already 'moved against us!' My home is occupied by a merciless black and white moggy who doesn't recognise the abolition of slavery occurred in 1833, because cats were never signatories to it...

One for the cat lovers. The whole series of them are funny too.

None of those dogs appear to be wearing a Sherlock Holmes hat and smoking a pipe. I therefore do not believe that they're actually Basset Hounds.

We’ve got a polydactyl maine coon. He’s a big cat: 7.5kg, very long legs, and his paws are twice the size of most cats' paws. When he doesn’t want to be picked up he anchors into the carpet and is very difficult to shift. Pics here.
