  • Isabel Hitchings, in reply to Megan Wegan,

Yeah, but it's surprising how often people see their keyboards as an excuse to abdicate that particular responsibility.

    There is that.

I’m not dissing anything, just arguing that a) M.I.A. is alive and well and b) the last thing you could say of our culture is that it produces too few mashups. It’d be like saying that the world is a swell place, pity it’s so underpopulated. And I don’t hate people either, you know.

  • Bart Janssen, in reply to Megan Wegan,

You have to give people room to take Megan's second option. (Yes, yes, I just giggled smuttily.)

    Oh, puh- lease!

Dude! I left it alone, couldn't you?

    Goddammit.

Megan is lovely. Believe everything she says.

W00t! This is fun! Course, certain people would never speak to me again on the basis of our emails/texts, so I shall wield this power carefully.

As a great man once said... I corrected it in under 30 seconds, thought I was going to get away with it.

It's also worth noting that the sample was registered and Strummer and The Clash got their share as composers.

    Clearly this must be stopped.

Want to find yourself in a situation where Megan has pretty much unbridled power over you? Ask me how!

But as we discussed last night, I will only do things for your own good. Which reminds me, aren't you meant to be on the couch right about now?

  • James Butler, in reply to Robyn Gallagher,

Here’s an observation about the PA System community. After a while, no matter what the original subject, all discussion threads will end up being a small group of people chatting amongst themselves.

Not sayin' anything, just sayin' :-)

Is this a bad thing though? It looks like friendship in action, from where I'm sitting.

    But I fully-on-purpose didn't say anything!

No, it's not a bad thing per se, but it marks the point at which anyone else who wants to contribute is likely to conclude that the ship has sailed.

I dunno, I've seen threads come back from the dead. God, in the middle of the thread about The Hobbit stuff, there was a three page conversation about correct dishwashing technique, and that thread went on for AGES.

I was reliably informed this thread was all about me. So the me meme in all it's manifestations is still on topic, right?

Anybody with a dishwasher can take part in that conversation, though (dishwasher privilege!). Sometimes we do objectively talk amongst ourselves, though, which is not the same thing.

  • Megan Wegan, in reply to giovanni tiso,

Yeah, and I am one of the worst perpetrators of that. I just assume people can ignore me and keep talking about the important stuff, though.

See I missed out on that, having given up early on the thread in question; but when Megan mentioned it I just assumed it would have been about manual dishwashing, because AFAIC there's only one way to pack a dishwasher, and surely everyone knows it.

Today's lesson: same privilege, different prejudice.

Yeah, me too. But as this is a discussion about discussions, we actually haven't even gone off topic. But yeah, sometimes we get carried away and forget about the people who aren't talking. But on the other hand, I'd hate to stifle the 'running off on tangents' and see threads just choke and die. And this one is also excluding people by the speed at which it moves.

(Megan and I MET on PA. This is how we know each other. The thriving state of our sidekick/bitch relationship is just a testament to this community.)
