  • Robyn Gallagher,

The cat with the bag on its head is gold. I like that after a while the cat seems to have decided that since the bag isn't coming off, he's just going to enjoy having on for a while.

Hey, here's something fun and new to watch! Charlie Brooker, of Screenwipe and general awesomeness fame, has a new series, Newswipe. It's like Screenwipe but focuses on news media.

Episode 2 had a brilliant look at the Jade Goody cancer debacle, reckoning that the media had turned her into Schroedinger's cat - both dead and alive; neither dead nor alive.

Start with episode one, part one here:

And there's a playlist for the series here with the rest so far.

  • andin,

Yes last nights Media 7 was a very good show. I missed the first part unfortunately.
The OIA discussion was excellent and the Dick-o-meter worked a treat. I hope PH saw it and was suitably unimpressed.
Hey P (I like calling him that) GFY.

I have to say, it's got a way to go before it's as good as Screenwipe, but maybe it'll get there.

  • Gareth Ward,

    That cat made my day.

For some reason when it's walking in and out "of shot" in that corridor is one of the funnier things I've seen for some time. As Robyn said, totally nonchalant about it...

Brian Edwards approach is an interesting one that I'm surprised we don't see more of - interesting-owner-as-blogger-for-traffic

Yes, for some reason, that's the funniest part of the whole thing.

Cats, Hmm Dont like 'em much.
If you do follow ups I'd like to know how the PSA & Brenda Pilot get on with their OIA request.

  • Mark Harris,

    Good discussion on the OIA.

Occasionally, I'll blame the public servant, if I think they're being deliberately obstructive, but generally Nicky and the others are correct - they're just trying to do their job.

One thing that was missed is that any inquiry, verbal or written or email, is an OIA request. As you pointed out, writing it down gets better precision (and trackability) but they can't require you to write it down (AFAIK). That's a delaying tactic that you can challenge them on.

The obstructionist spin doctors aren't only in the Beehive, also. There's plenty in Government agencies.

Infant mortality does make for good sport, doesn't it?

He would have been in the Bob Clarkson league of MPs if Georgina Beyer hadn't kicked his arse.

BTW, any wagers on David Garrett being this term's Bob Clarkson?

As asked in another thread ... What is it about Bob Clarkson that makes you think he should be and David Garrett belong in the same category?

Bob found out early on that Parliament really wasn't the place for him, he had a colourful vernacular, but in short he was a good honest kiwi bloke (but one who was a teetotaller). He had political disagreements with others in the House, but had a good relationship with Nándor Tánczos etc. etc.

My daughter would like to thank Leo for the cat clip, which she loved. She's now gone off to find our cat...

  • dyan campbell,

Thanks for those Leo, especially the cat clip. Your eye for good cat comedy is deeply appreciated.

I love how the cat gets the bag off and then decides to put it back on.

We used to have a cat named Chimo who would have fights with his own back paws, around the posts of the chair-back. He often lost, and would fall right off the chair after kicking himself in the face with his back paws.

Another game could only be played between 3:00 and 4:00am. He would start running upside down under your bed clinging to the mattress from the underside, running in crazy circles. When you'd reach under the bed to pull him out, he'd rip your hand to shreds. Ah, cat humour.
