Only in the early years. They dumped him because the hat kept falling off when he danced.

That's nice. The last I'd noticed he was trying to be Kenneth Williams, but only appeared to be succeeding in blurring the distinction between Carry On and carrion.

TPF played a gig where Mr Gondry was in the audience (it was an Eagle Vs Shark thing)...while we were packing up our gear we were going "was that guy from Wellington", until Luke realised who it was. Then we got shy. Then he left.

A great Great Blend last night. Scintillating conversations and the time just flew by..but I wonder if anyone else thought that Bruce Sterling came across as just a touch arrogant, scoring cheap points off Andrew Dubber.
One thought for the next event--it may be a touch geeky (and a bit Rotarian) but could we have name badges (worn voluntarily, of course), so PA posters can spot others in the room? I had a conversation with Paul Litterick but I reckon there would have been others I could have shaken hands with.

One more thing: will the Great Blend talks be posted here eventually?. I would like to refer back to them this year, for teaching.

Geoff, I agree it would have been good to connect given we were in the same room. Saw Keith and the jetlagged Tze Ming briefly, and met Mikaere and his lovely partner who I know from other places. Not sure if the name badge thing would have worked, but alternatives not coming to mind right now. Did you talk with any obviously Orcon-sourced attendees?
I also thought Sterling did not come across as a person I'd like to know at all, despite admiring his work. Plain rude at times - although Dubber probably asked for it the first time by dissing futurism in general. I bristled empathetically, as a strategist, although Andrew's presentation was great and I am likewise hoping it will become shareable somewhere given that he seemed to be recording it.
I never thought to ask Mr Dubber afterwards quite how people are meant to fill in that right hand side of his big piece of paper if they're designing for future audiences not just the ones in front of their noses.
I get the imperative for quick prototyping, but it doesn't seem like a substitute for a long view if you're designing an industry, economy, society, city or nation. Sebastian Moffat was compelling last year on 100-year urban planning horizions, for instance.

Well, Sacha, if you think that was rude you should be thankful I didn't jump on that last call for questions and ask what he really thinks about the state of publishing and popular science fiction. He really puts the punk in cyberpunk -- and may he never, ever change.
