  • Steve Parks,

That's Michel Gondry directing there. Yowza.

Coolio. Can't wait to watch that. (Can't watch now - at work.)

  • Joshua Drummond,

    Insta-classic, damn straight.

Did I spot Ron Jeremy in there at one point, or was that just a Freudian reaction of some kind?

  • Ben McNicoll,

At first glance i thought it was Dennis Franz, but Ron Jeremy would make more sense.

Every short, balding, faintly unsavoury white man in a hideous shirt looks like Ron Jeremy. It's a fundamental Law of Nature.

  • Joshua Drummond,

Yeah, but the Ron Jeremyness shone especially strongly from this one.
WIth regard to the Law of Nature, do you suppose Ron Jeremy is the Platonic Idea for short, balding, faintly unsavoury white men in a hideous shirts?

<Did I spot Ron Jeremy in there at one point, or was that just a Freudian reaction of some kind?>

I don't know, and I feel no shame in not knowing.

However, that aside: isn't the dude in the front of the Conga line with a moustache and the aviator sunglasses one of the Village People?

  • Glenn Pearce,

    And another excellent Media 7:

I know it was only a minor part of the show but I felt a bit short changed by the FOO camp report personally, didn't really tell me much except a few geeks in tents gathered at Warkworth.

I'm sure there's much more to it. Where can I find more ?

  • andrew llewellyn,

It looks like Dennis Franz to me - but I'd have to see his butt to be sure.

His butt. It's another part of his anatomy that he's generally recognisable by/famous for. :D

Indeed. Randy Jones -- who used to be the cowboy and now runs the Village People -- plays the doorman and is on the dancefloor in that sequence.

We intended to edit up the six interviews and put 'em on the Media7 blog on the TVNZ site -- but it appears that hasn't happened. I think there may have been technical issues .

  • BenWilson,

It's the secret of Ron Jeremy's success, that you wouldn't be able to pick him out of a lineup. A fundamental tenet of straight male porn is that the guy should not capture one iota of your attention. You're meant to be able to mentally substitute yourself in there, and that's waaay easier if the guy looks average (or even ugly) than if he has the form of a greek statue, after the Vandals have knocked the penis off and replaced it with a battle-strength cudgel.

    Thought he was familiar.

He must be getting on by now, but I guess 'You can't stop the music... Nobody can stop the music...'

  • giovanni tiso,

The Village People: I've always wondered if they were gay.

Otherwise I'm closing my eyes, blocking my ears and going LA-LA-LA-LA in the general direction of all you people (and you know who you are, and how damn many you are) who drop various kinds of hints about or offers spoiler-ey snippets of the new series of Flight with the Conchords. Some of us are waiting for Prime Television (motto: "Our website is shite") to start screening it already.

Um... no, Dennis Franz is notable for showing his butt in an episode of NYPD Blue. You are thinking of the other guy that was mentioned, that is famous for looking like a hedgehog.

Just an act probably, I expect they're no more gay than Julian Clary is.

  • Gareth Ward,

The Village People: I've always wondered if they were gay.

    According to wiki:
Victor Edward Willis... [was the] original lead singer of the disco group Village People. He was also the only straight member of the original group. His persona was the "Cop" and "Naval Officer".

I'm sensing a hidden reference to the missing member of the Village People, Knowledge Bro.

The naval officer wasn't gay?! Dear me, my straighdar must have been severely mulfunctioning all these years.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Julian Clary *is* gay or so this article implies. I think it may be libel to suggest otherwise.
