  • recordari,

For a mouldy old bastard, this 12" mix of his new single is well fab in a plastic Motown way.

This mouldy old bastard thanks you. And Russell for the 'too legit to quit' download link. Shit, did I just inadvertently reference MC Hammer, again?

  • Simon Grigg,

Our weekend in this part of the world is rather dominated by the mayhem, largely peaceful so far, of Thai democratic murmurings:

  • Rob Hosking,

Came across this Weller collaboration with someone called Andy Lewis a year or so back on an Uncut giveaway compilation. Boring picture, great picture is boring the the song is great. The tune is very Motown, the horns very Stax-ish

  • Ian Dalziel,

In related news, Paul Weller just received the NME gong for being a 'Godlike Genius'. While the title does seem a bit OTT, I agree he deserves at least equal status to Bobbie Gillespie.

So what songs did this God bloke write?
I've heard the GOD track on Onset/Offset's Solid Kryptonite Hits LP from the '80s - but I thought that was an acronym for Gordon On Drugs...

April ) - guitars by Tyson Smith (no relation), he's one to watch, his debut album is out in early April, or try and catch the Tyson Smith Trio or his work with sister Tamara in the brilliant "World Music" band Mundi as well or check his website
    oh by the way I'm a fan... :- )

    Well spotted that woman!
Karen - so that's where you got to... ;- )
How wonderful to hear from friends in exotic places... aaahh, the scattered alumni of Mr Moore's Room at South Intermediate... (I believe Kristin K took to the Law, Katherine M went to the Library & Janet W took to the Media... the others?)

  • recordari,

Listening to Conan and the Mockasins and realized why it had that slight air of familiarity. It is certainly unique and very cool, but it did remind me of The Legendary Pink Dots, who I loved back in the 80s.

The first two songs on Snat are just brilliant. The rest is growing on me.

  • philipmatthews,

Fans of all things early 80s should check this very good Jon Savage column and its embedded Section 25 song. From a time when post-punk electronics crossed over with early rap/electro jams ...

  • Rachaelking,

...mainly by people that had little or no connection to the Dunedin scene at that time

How incredibly patronising, Grant! Philip has stated it exactly as it was, that I played "for a time" (and yes, recorded, but with your connections you'd know that), which pretty much sums up my entire patchwork musical background. Everything was just for a time. And a lovely time it was. It only ever gets mentioned as a curiosity. You can relax now.

  • Rachaelking,

Ha! Non-existent at the moment due to the baby that popped out just after the last novel was finished. Two kids. Tired. Writing on hold. Not for long I hope. Thanks for asking!

  • Rachaelking,

I'll amend that. It's not non-existent. The ideas are still ticking over and sometimes words make it onto the screen or page. I'll change it to 'slowly'.
