Maybe they should get Bill on to Brown's Media 7 Media show for some fireworks - though I hear Ralston, a former head of TVNZ news and current affairs, is among people that TVNZ has banned from the show.

To me that's a frustrating mix of "wow, beautiful, poignant song etc etc" with "why in God's name is the whole thing cheapened by being televised with appropriate commercial breaks and piece to camera's?"
As Russell says, America is back.
But, I'm happy to enjoy the 'awww' moments. There's plenty of time for cynicism comin' atcha in the months ahead.

I don't doubt there would be interesting discussions about it, but no, there isn't a ban as such.
I might note that a couple of the people who were supposedly banned subsequently appeared on the show.

That was from November, but in truth, I'm struggling to imagine a realistic scenario in which Chomsky would express approval.
Ooops, that was careless. I had been reading several articles by him, one of which was from yesterday, and got confused. Apologies.
Absolutely he's a pessimist when it comes to US governments, and I have read dozens of articles by him that carried a strong feeling of autopilot, reusing the same examples, talking about the same points over and again. Which can be boring since he also talks at great length. And confrontational, since what he is saying is controversial.
But none of that actually refutes anything he says.

I will happily admit to him being the first (and the last) US president to not be married and live with a male friend. Anything more than that is just people drawing conclusions.

Never been a gay All Black, either. But y'know, there is ground between 'completely straight' and 'gay'.

I'm just watching the UK Channel 4 news coverage of the inauguration. Christopher Hitchens said to Jon Snow that he thinks John Roberts had a petit mal seizure while he was reading the oath, and that he's had such episodes before.

But none of that actually refutes anything he says.That absolutely nails Chomsky -- the same description can also be applied to his writings on linguistics, where he is usually addressing important questions that need to be discussed in our field, and providing interesting possible answers for them, and yet I often find myself unconvinced or even actively repelled by his argument style.

Anyhoo, Abe Lincoln was unmarried and slept with his best mate in the Whitehouse but, apparently, that don't make him gay. Might make him cheerful though.;-)

Nah... you know what would be a really big deal for me -- a President who is either an atheist or takes his faith far too seriously to pimp it for poll points.

You've also got to smuggle in the idea that contemporary tabloid culture isn't the default template for male relationships.
Just for a couple of days, until it's time to start doing shit. I'm not begrudging anyone a couple of days of "I never thought I'd live to see this".
*sigh* Fine, but I'd actually like some sections of the press corps to wipe themselves off and try to remember what they're supposed to be doing. As I said a while back, when the choice of the First Puppy got more attention than the Secretary of State's confirmation hearings then perhaps we should be wondering why some things haven't changed at all.
to ignore the African side of his parentage to gain some sort of anti-PC kudos also ignores the impact his election has not just in the USA and, obviously, Africa but world wide. It's an important part of the narrative.
I won't back down on that view just because Craig wants to start chucking toys from a cot.
Don -- What the fuck are you going on about? Like Mr. Brown, I'm going to have to get a bit insistent about the rules of engagement if you really want to pick a fight. (Though I'd rather you didn't.) Don't put exceptionally stupid words in my mouth. And don't bleat about being the victim of entirely imaginary attempts to crush your dissent.
