  • Kumara Republic,

We're marooning Laws and Hone Harawira together? Excellent. Pretty sure there's a reality TV show in there somewhere, too.

I've never liked reality TV, but the Running Man is too good for those two.

  • Craig Ranapia,

look at it this way. hone led that delegation and some traits of a good leader are the ability to prioritise and delegate.

Other traits of a good leader are telling the truth, being able to handle criticism without melting down, and following though on a commitment, especially when you can't really be arsed. Also, you don't palm off your work on others -- and I really do find it a wee bit patronising treating Katrina Shanks and Rajin Prasad as if they're somehow lesser lifeforms. Does the phrase primus inter pares mean anything to you?

There is a whiff of bullshit in the air, but it don't smell like Puritan white motherfucker

I love the smell of mofo in the morning.

Having studied neither law nor Latin, not really. I'm guessing it means "first amongst equals"? Do feel free to simply say that in the first place.

  • Joe Wylie,

I'm guessing it means "first amongst equals"?

That's the problem with communicating this way. If you could just see the other bastard's tie, you'd get a pretty fair idea of whether they'd have sufficient Latin to patronise you.

Aw, I'll stick to the Latin because it's a pretty well known term that expressed the idea that Parliament is ostensibly a collegial body and just because you're leading a delegation it doesn't reduce the other members to a glorified secretarial pool.

Could anyone advise the Latin for Mallards version:

Try someone with a double major in politics and classics, who shared a few tutorials with a current Labour MP. :)

i feel your pain and can understand your embarassment now that we all know ngai tahu didnt exist in th sth island as an iwi till they came down from up north and ate everyone in their path only as recently as 4 generations before whitey turned up. the sooner you reconcile your denial and can face that criticism in public the better off you'll be.

and for all your dissing of brailsford, he still espouses nobler values and a more encompassing philosophy than the elitist corporate values of tront.

forget to brush your teeth again craig ?

now can you please both quit triptrapping over my bridge cos its getting hard to figure out the trollbaiting from the troll.

  • dubmugga,

    back on point.

i have to go into town today past nick smiths office so i may as well see if i can start a process of getting clarification on and protection for the estuary here.

apprently the iwi had a decision reversed by the courts last year despite previous decisions granting ownership to say that the intial decisions to grant ownership were an oversight and werent meant to be given..hmmmm

...and in the meantime we still got people disrespecting the burial sites, disturbing the protected nesting birdlife, carving up the estuary with vehicle tracks, dragging nets up the channel and overfishing the cockle beds

at the very least there should be some signage to say something governing the law and history of this place.

  • Jake Pollock,

Don't worry Gareth, the Puritans really hated the Catholics, possibly more than Harawira hates white motherfuckers.

Probably. Although he may not have read Dan Brown, he's seen the movie.

Au contraire, I smell a literary parody in the making. Or a first sentence at least...

  • Gareth Ward,

And now he's obliquely referring to the French Revolution (although Goff as Louis XVI is a bit of a stretch).

Sam's right, there's an awesome Dan Brown novel in here somewhere.

In a delightful spoonerism, a member of the public on the news last night referred to Hone Harawira as Mr. Honiara.

With the entirety of Pakeha New Zealand as the bumbling-yet-effective pillager of the fortunes of the oppressed, and the intrepid "Mr Honiara" as the leader of a secret society rallying against the iniquities of said pillager. Trying to work out the ancient symbology that could be interpreted by Langdon, though, given that writing wasn't exactly a strong point with the Maori. Maybe reading the direction of features in carvings, such as which way the head of a tiki is tilted?

  • Just thinking,

If we're talking Paris then it's the St. Bartholomew's Day Catholic massacre of the invited Huguenot wedding guests that I suggest is significantly different to the way Maori/Pakeha relations have been at any stage in our History. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Bartholomew's_Day_massacre

Or just watch Queen Margot - great fight scenes.

I don't know, the economic state of the ancien regime does have some parallels with the modern day.
