A redemption phase, y'mean?
-
Actually, I think it'd actually be nice to see the current thread continue on and get somewhere worthwhile, with the previous 107 pages left as an example of the Bad Old Days.
Feel free. But I'll probably start another one once we know a bit more about what National plans to do with the Copyright Act.

I've moved the mouse over the link a few times but my finger refuses to click

Yeah, perhaps. There was actually a lot of interesting discussion going on in there which never really cut through the bad behaviour by various individuals (including myself at times).

Or this, and we can just let the old thread die a well-earned natural death.

I was working my way towards asking Kyle how much he was prepared to pay for me not to ruin his nice event. Veiled intimidation being one of Italy's finest exports and that.
Two thousand people plus alcohol in an ice rink with New Zealand taking on Australia for the first ever ice hockey game televised live on NZ TV, appearing on Sky as the buildup to the 22 August Bledisloe Cup match?
Some Italian with his Ottawa Senators top is the least of our worries.

Not for a while then.

dorks ex machina...
I have to admit that I had thought the two "trolls" might've actually been an artifcial intelligence construct - ghosts in the machine - I'm sure they'd never have passed a Turing Test... no compassion, they reminded me of psychotic acid overdose cases I've met, picking fights and prodding raw psychic wounds... shudder.... and, gasp, those anagrams were definitely machine generated! - the mere thought! Pshaw and ptui...yrs

Copyright threads are like Robbie William albums - should be banned because the last one was so goddamned awful.
Just my opinion.
-
Hey as long as Robbie doesn't turn up and sing all the time when others are trying to have a quiet natter I don't mind. Still think he's rubbish, but.

As an alternative, we could stop mocking the guy who's been banned and cannot respond. And while ultimately I'm of the 'what rich lock said' conviction, it's not as if robbery was always at fault, or the only one at fault, or never contributed to advancing the discussion on *that* thread.

What Giovanni said.

Yeah, let's move on. Given the long and extremely dickish reply I got to my email to him about it, I think I'm being generous, but moving on is the appropriate thing to do.
-
I think everyone has been admirably restrained this afternoon.

I'm with Giovanni also: I lost my temper on that thread, but I also learned quite a bit (even from the person I lost my temper with) so it was not a wasted use of intertubing at all, at all-

Yes, even though the person you lost your temper with was foolishly rude to you. I do rather regret that I was having a break from the topic at the time.
That's why it's worth carrying on, and not deleting posts or banning people at first excuse. And even real trollish behaviour can usefully flush out good arguments.
But in the case of robbery, it was just the moment of dealing with the same thing, yet again, after two years of it. I basically lost all hope of reform, and then had that decision vindicated by his unpleasant response.
-
this is what Pappy has deemd "extremely dickish" ...
[I've deleted the rest of your post and I'm only leaving this in to clarify. Your email responses are not "extremely dickish", although they are extremely unusual. I'll talk about it to you offline if you like. The "extremely dickish" response was from robbery -- RB]

FWIW, i agree with Gio. It was hard to discuss matters more broadly, beyond downloading music, eg, when Mark & Robbery "owned" that thread. Found the thinly veiled contempt for anyone who didn't agree that copyright sucks rather tedious. Did propel me to learn more, tho.

Tiller family: Clinic will close
Oh good. I haven't felt my quota of impotent rage and sadness yet today.

Can I utter the words "terrorists win" without starting the whole spiral all over again?
-
The comments thread in that article is particularly charming.

And does anyone have a copy of the Dom Post I can borrow ("bottow?" Sorry Rich) containing Karl du Fresne's rant on the topic? I would like to vomit all over it.

I was going to make the same comment but... blah. Crappy.
I hope some people get together and reopen the clinic and keep its work going.
Understand why the family doesn't want to be those people though, enough how he was treated in life without it continuing after he died.
