  • Rik,

When does your product hit the streets?

I vote for clinical trials of Rik's chocolate.

I hear you, I hear you. I don't want to blame my beautiful little children for anything but they are at that age (nearly 1 and 2 and a quarter) where they take up just about every moment that you aren't working or sleeping. Which is great, but it doesn't allow me to break out the roaster and start fooling around with chocolate as much as I would like to. In fact, not at all!

I promise to make a batch before the year is out and will duly enlist the Public Address tasting panel for feedback.

And I hope I didn't sound too snarky about the cold-pressed chocolate - there's plenty of room for lots of interesting products like this, I just think that consumers have a right to know what they are consuming, especially at a venue such as GLFM.

  • Russell Brown,

I would agree that clinical trials are needed on Ibogaine to ensure medical professionals can use it without fear of prosecution. There has to be a good, qualified psychotherapist and medical supervision, its pretty much like taking an LSD trip in clinical conditions so people need to be guided through the process or it may not have the desired outcome.

Which is what the 1960s LSD trials seem to have found: that simply administering a drug and watching (let alone tying up the patient!) didn't work, but guided therapy may have.

I do think it's important to balance the risks of a last-resort treatment against those of continued methamphetamine addiction in assessing it.

It is similiar to taking LSD but lasts for a briefer time. Its definitely not addictive or a danger to society. Its like a wake up call as a last resort. So it is unlikely to be used recreationally..lot of vomiting, delerium and strange visions.

I was interested to read that it's similar to harmaline, which I did once try more than 20 years ago. I loved that; it doesn't sound like I'd love ibogaine.

Christ, no wonder no-one likes them.

    Sigh.

  • Russell Brown,

I'm not advocating this necessarily, but I think that while user-as-criminal view has an overtly moralising angle, the user-as-patient view is founded on an implicit moral disapproval of drug that is just as constricting.

I can also lead you into spending a lot of money on "treatment" for people who've been busted with a little bit of pot.

  • Stephen Judd,

Apropos ibogaine and lsd as treatments accompanied by talk therapy: it makes sense to me that once your psyche has been given some good whacks with a pharmaceutical sledgehammer, a helpful person can help it re-solidify in more healthy shape.

Of course verifying things that appear to make sense is what we have scientists for :D

  • HORansome,

Russell, can I ask what the Uncensored reference was in regards to? Did Eisen and his crowd have a stall at the market or were they just running amok (I imagine he runs amok rather than having a stately presence)?

They were handing out a leaflet headed "Is the Government planning to force you to have a CONTAMINATED VACCINE?"

The claim is based on a nugget of truth: Baxter International's appalling failure of process in sending a vaccine contaminated with bird flu virus to three contractor laboratories in February. A Czech lab picked up the contamination when the ferrets it was tested on died. It was never anything like a market-ready vaccine.

The leap from that to the claim that it was part of a plan to infect the global population and thus drum up vaccine business is a rather large one, but no too large for Eisen and friends to observe:

Conveniently for Baxter, "Swine Flu" suddenly "popped up" on the unsuspecting people of Mexico.

    Ahem.

I wonder whether he is also responsible for the posters around the place (which look almost professional) advising people to not get a flu jab?

  • Brickley Paiste,

It wasn't perfect – and there aren't yet many real backyard veges for sale – but it was a great start.

I was hoping you'd review this. It was pretty far from perfect and as a start it was pretty disappointing. They better get their shit together fast.

I'm not sure why I spent $20 on a membership. There were lots of grumbles from people that were actually there to buy food as opposed to grey haired first time parents in their late 40s who were there to show off expensive prams whilst yelling at Max/Luca/Ella/Sophie to be careful on the swing, darling!

I was there with lots of cash to buy lots of stuff. There was no stuff to buy. I ordered a coffee and after 20 minutes got my money back.

The competitive advantage was that it was going to be a real farmers' market. As it was, it was a pale mush of La Cigale and Kraftbomb. Totally crapful.

    pita breads, humus and falafel

Farmers are always producing that stuff.

Let's not get into the falafel argument again ...

Indeed. Wikipedia tells me it's also good for reducing body temperature in cases of MDMA overdose. And hiccups.

You know I was a father by 25 but I'm really tempted to find a co-operative person to procreate with right now* purely to spite you, you vindictive stereotyping so-and-so.

*except this would get me in a lot of trouble with Kathy.

Sigh ... and here's me thinking the sight of lots of families and kids playing on the playground in the sunshine was nice. Never mind.

Honestly Brickley, do you do any other flavour than withering?

Really bad because they look just like Cadbury adverts. And because most blokes do not care about chocolate. Expensive brand confusion.

Thanks for posting the clip from Heavenly Pop Hits Brenda, that's a real nice way to start the week, gotta agree with Russell on there being a Dunedin sound. Not sure what Chris Knox isn't hearing.

  • Just thinking,

Isn't the war on drugs, just anextention of the machiavellian work of The Prince, and all about having a constant enermy, the poor.

Of course this was over taken by the christian rights war on Islam, who they have more in common with than they have differences, but never let the facts get in the way of your war.

Afghanistan needs to be the worlds legitimate producer of opium for medicinal use and this should include addiction treatment.

Keep it profitable, stablise the economy and let then start to invest in local infrastructure. Lend them some DSIR boffins for the value added market. :p

That's all natural basic ingredients, home made withering. None of that nasty store bought withering I'll have you know.

Store-bought withering isn't *really* withering though, is it? It's actually withering-like *product*. And then you'd be in thrall to the Big Scorn Industry.
