    Love it

ta, and I wish I could say it was original
but I'm riffing on (or ripping off) a classic story I first heard on a radio show last century My Word! by either Denis Norden or Frank Muir, it may even not have originated with them...
involving a tribe living in the jungle who spurned modern medicine and laxatives preferring to use the leaves of common trees - the pun(ch) line being, of course - "with fronds like this who need enemas"

In the final round Muir and Norden each told a story to "explain" the origin of a well-known phrase. An early example took the quotation "Dead! And never called me mother!" from a stage adaptation of East Lynne by Mrs Henry Wood, which became the exclamation of a youth coming out of a public telephone box which he had discovered to be out of order.

here's a sample of the earlier part of the show:

it even has a word to tickle Rob and Gareth...

    Denis Norden

Still on deck, though largely retired. There are a bunch of It'll Be Alright On The Night segments on YouTube which showcase his (for me) excellent 80s TV incarnation. Favourite quote: Modern life is full of surprises, not all of which respond to antibiotics.
