In related news. Party Central backup may be 'ghost town'.

It's Friday, innit? I can't get over how apposite this video seems, at least to me.

  • Sacha,

Thank you all. It's still only part of the answer but I wanted to give some sense of the bigger picture from my understanding of it. Pleasing to be able to pull enough details together amidst a fast-evolving discussion.

  • Rich Lock, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

I'd take the general sycophancy and incoherence as par for the course, but what are the journalists of the NZ media doing missing this story?

Too busy getting the real local stories that matter: The England rugby team....went to a bar! And there was a blonde woman there! And she might have talked to one of them!

Hold the front page! Oh, wait, you did.

Meanwhile, in a sidebar on page A6, we have this insignificant little titbit.

    Not missing; just late. :)

    Link FAIL.

Story about the NZ SAS being involved in the recent Kabul shootout. Which should arguably be getting a bit more oxygen than it currently is, being tucked away under the important stories like Ritchie McCow, the England rugby team doing something entirely unremarkable, and all the rest of it.

Story about the NZ SAS being involved in the recent Kabul shootout.

    Specifically:

This appears to contradict the Government's line that the SAS soldiers provided operational advice, but did not directly engage with the insurgents...

I never ever imagined I would say this but...

The Sun's report on Tindall's night out with the blonde in Queenstown was pretty darned accurate, if the CCTV footage is anything to go by.

    Oopsie!

Not that I read or watched any of it, of course :)

  • DexterX,

The failure of the RWC Party Central Opening Party is well covered in recent posts – re the planning, resources and venue.

The problem essentially starts with Key inviting all of Auckland, the rest of NZ and the world to the party of the century and then failing to see that it is delivered.

Like so much of Key's initiatives - they are an ill formed ideas with not much to back it up – other examples are lifting wages to catch up with Australia, the Cycle way, the recovery of the bodies of the Pike River Miners and it goes on and on.

Key spouts laudable goals though his government never produces or implements the strategy to back any of them up – the overriding criticism in “A goal is not a strategy”.

It is likely the only policies that Nats will execute effectively is the sale of state assets, (which is to our long-term detriment) and putting the boot into the poor (the working poor and those on welfare)..

The howling from the Right Wing Media on Monday for Len Browne’s resignation were disgusting – you can imagine how hard this last weekend and early week have been for Len Browne trying to work to solve a problem with a pack of wolves that are vying to slash his throat.

Key will look at his terms as Prime Minster as a growth experience – he has demonstrated to me he lacks the depth of life experience relevant to be PM. He does not grasp what it is like to be someone raising a family on the minimum wage, the grieving family and friends of a Pike River miner, or anyone else who is not a privileged member of the power elite.

When I saw his grinning face walk out to stand alongside the All Blacks for the one minute of silence I wanted to wipe that grin of his face with the back of my hand.

What we are experiencing is the pain of Key growing up in public.

Rather than "the Minister 's Brain has exploded" - it could be "the PM's balls haven't dropped" - his awareness is that of a child..

Well I recall that the Herald and ZB covered it. I see Fairfax also followed it, as did RNZ, Radio Live, and AAP.

Hell, I even tweeted about it just to make doubly sure it got out there.

Surely his point was the order of importance placed on crap like Tindell when we are also attached to a bloody war. I also think that is evident with the continuation of the drunks at a bar in Queenstown and a stupid Bouncer still plastered over page 1 in the Herald, when the only article regards Kabul I can find in the Herald online today is about Australians at war in Afghanistan. Yet all around the world there is still analysis.A quick google reveals this. Go figure.

Anthony Hubbard has a good piece on Goff in today's Post.

    What Sofie said.

Tindall: full front page coverage (with a small sidebar on some other story I can't recall - probably a car crash knowing the herald). Plenty of follow-up over the next few days.

SAS shootout in Afghanistan: A small box on page A6. Zero follow-up.

Your effort to 'get it out there' is extremely laudable. But my point is that I don't really want our de facto national paper to be taking it's cues in terms of content, tone, direction and editorial line from The Sun.

One Question - Where is the Plastic Waka??

Should it not have been in place for the RWC Opening?

It will be by the Viaduct, but I think only for the last two weeks. The whole idea's a mess, really.
