  • Peter Martin,

"Party central" is, like the ambassadors' scheme, entirely a creation of government ministers.

Bugger. Just when I found a wharf with an antique shed on it here...

  • BlairMacca,

Wow good work. A nice frank admission from Snedden, I have to be hoenst I've been pretty impressed by how up front and sensible he has been on the planning of the RWC.

I can't believe none of the MSM has asked Snedden this question yet.

    Yeah, it puzzles us too.

I would think he'd be on a warning by now.

  • Fraser Gardyne,

    Interesting.

I'd been told that 'party central' was to satisfy Heineken. As sponsors their name would be obviously distanced from any potentially damaging debate.

    It seemed to make sense...

It will puzzle me even more if no one else runs with this

As soon as they get all that egg off their faces, yes. That might take a little bit.

  • Ross Bell,

@Fraser - Not the first time the govt has rolled over for Heineken.

Heineken got its wish to have its product served in metal cans despite protest from Police.

The fast tracking of liquor licences thru the world cup empowering bill is consistent with backing the booze barons.

  • GemmaG,

My favourite bit of last night's taping was Corkery's response when Russell told her "Shut up, Pam". Feminist comedy at its best (yes, they are mutually inclusive!). You lot are gonna love it. I thought I was at The Classic.

  • GemmaG,

(On a more serious note, I also enjoyed Pam keeping it on-message in terms of what more the media - love that catch-all - can be doing to uncover Super City backhanders. Won't give any more away. By all means, watch.)

    Good work.

I can't believe none of the MSM has asked Snedden this question yet.

Is Media7 considered non-MSM? Is there even a useful definition of MSM now?

  • Steve Barnes,

    Hmmm, Heineken.
Twas them that were responsible for the closing of the Gluepot back in '94, apparently they bought in to Dominion Breweries on the proviso that the brewery got out of retail and concentrated on brewing Heineken for the southern market. Bastards.
On the beer can front, I can see why they want their beer to be seen, free advertising, whats the point of having your beer on show if no-one knows it's yours?.
As for the Police seeing Aluminium beer cans as a clear and present danger, well, you only have to read what they said about the Bombay Skateboarders

"I just can't see that it's possible, and if it is, they're jolly stupid. All they have to do is come off and they would kill themselves.

"They get speed and it doesn't take much to fall off and hit their head on the kerb and cause permanent brain damage.

"If it's real, he [Chapman] is an idiot. If any of the police staff had seen him, he definitely would have been taken off the road."

Yeah, right, "Taken off the road" with a quick nudge of a Police car and then a shovel?. No danger there, eh?.

That's a bit silly. We can't think of any other way to get a skateboarder off the road?

Whether or not people should be risking their own wellbeing in that way is an interesting question. I'm going to fall in behind "people travelling incredibly fast down hills on public roads without brakes" are a risk to others.

  • Grant McDougall,

Someone recently commented here that "party central" seemed like a sudden phrase that John Key blurted out without thinking and then, having opened his gob, had to make happen.

Given Sneddon's comments this is looking more amd more likely.

Also, aren't Sneddon's comments refreshingly free of management-speak cliches ?

And I recall watching on TV back then that the "Auckland property boom" was responsible. Whitewash, methinks?

  • Fraser Gardyne,

    Kyle,

seeing your comment sets me wondering if the Canadian's took their longboards to Dunedin for an attempt on Baldwin Street?

    That would be a challenge.

Perhaps you could attach a bungie cord at the top of the road to arrest your sudden descent?

But then the board would become a dangerous missile. Gaffer tape to stop that?

A few Heinekens first and chucks away...

About ten years ago a first year student was killed after deciding to ride a wheelie bin down Baldwin St after a night out drinking. It was out of control and hit a parked trailer about halfway down.

  • DexterX,

That is such an obvious question.

If the particles floating around form an idea in the mind of the prime minister or any minister - then let it be so - they are after all gods stalking this earth - Hmm vanity.

I am sure the economy is managed with an equal amount of sense.

    What a "phuck" up.

  • Steve Curtis,

Do all the Stasi like rules about sponsors apply to 'fan zones' as well. Which I think covers up to 1Km around the playing venues.

Tell me again how many extra visitors we will getting for this over priced RWC, was it 50,000 - when we all ready get 2.5million for the year just passed.
That makes it 2%. Im speechless

Like, totally dude. I mean, you know, the risk of having to clean all that gooey flesh out of your radiator grille and hose the blood off your tyres.
And yeah, brakes on a skateboard, and how about seatbelts?.

  • Steve Barnes,

When I initially heard the term "Party Central" my first thought was "Brain Fart". These Prime Ministerial flashes of brilliance will forever be known as "Key words" to me. I saw the flim "Bob Roberts" last night, it had an eerie familiarity.
