I suspect business reporters use "crunch" like they use "ease" - to avoid telling the truth that something really bad is happening. Wouldn't want to scare the horses.
"Crash" or "crisis" sound somehow more accurate. Beyond that, I got nothing..

I hear the word crunch a lot on RadioNZ. As in "Global Economic Crunch". So, I'm beginning to think crunch is good. The 1930s was the crash and the 2000s could be the crunch. Has a nice cannibal sound to it.
How to weather the crunch:
1: Start a turtle farm.
2: Sell crunchy pies. -
Beyond that, I got nothing.
That's what we should call it.

Listening to David talking about this the other day I realised that "The George" was in itself too long and that perhaps "The Gorge" might be a better term since it implies the greed of the speculative bubble that preceded the problem and the US govt's largest spendthrift at the same time
