  • Che Tibby,

that article juha links to is pretty damn funny. a good cop turned to helping stoners evade the law.

[the reformed cop's] received a lot of negative attention since the Tyler Morning Telegraph first broke the story

i lived in oil-rich tyler for a fair old while when in texas. it's not far from where the reformed cop lives. the entire town and surrounding country was still dry in 2001 (ie no booze).

but man... if you were the sort of person looking for it... there was allegedly some crazy, crazy drugs in that town. most of them consumed by rich republican's kids.

  • Juha Saarinen,

The US is weird like that. It never really got over the prohibition, which means they combine strict alcohol availability rules with a horrendous boozing problem. And, the "crunk culture" is spreading across the globe now...

  • Zippy Gonzales,

How does one get invited to one of these cannabis seizure burn-offs? Do they sell tickets for downwind seating?

  • slarty,

Do you think we're reaching the point where the masses kinda know deep down that prohibition is not working? That Reagan invented the War on Drugs because the War on Communism was petering out?

I've been watching The Professionals again recently - what a load of crap we were fed about the impact of heroin in the 70's. Didn't gel at all with the functional addicts I met later on in my life. No surprises then that I don't believe the political propaganda about drugs. Surely it's not just me?

  • James Green,

I rather like one of the under-mentioned BZP stats is that 61% of BZP users smoke weed, and over 20% take E. So, er, if drugs are bad and all, and BZP is banned, whaddaya think the kids are going to do?
(And about a third of those hospitalised from BZP have taken illegal substances at the same time, and pretty much the rest of them are drunk).

  • Pic Picot,

A few months ago, a bunch of Blenheim kids were blown up while sniffing LPG in a car, when one of them lit a cigarette. A young man was killed.
"A tragic illustration of the dangers of sniffing gas" was the official pronouncement, the considerably more obvious hazard - smoking - was ignored.
