  • Joanna,

My favourite version of 'Wuthering Heights' is me and all my friends wailing along and waving our arms like wacky inflatable car yard men. But this is a close second:

Sexposition indeed. Clearly HBO have set themselves a bar to clear in gratuitous scenes, and they're going to keep raising it.

  • HORansome,

Someone bet me to Noel Fielding's brilliant interpretation of "Wuthering Heights." I've soon this clip to numerous contemporary dancers and choreographers and I've yet to see anyone in the profession think it is less that stellar.

I think Wolfmother's cover sounds more like a cover of James Reyne's cover.

Word! I thoroughly enjoyed the sexposition in last night's episode. Totally made sense.

Generally, not -- Tyrion's whore-habit does have a point, and a rather poignant one. The topless extras roaming around every damn Dothraki scene (oh, those wild uninhibited natives!) and adding nothing to the scene with Littlefinger. It's almost like there's a timewarp back to the more innocent days of 70's Eurotrash sexploitation when boobies were delightful shorthand for "we are so decadent". But if that was at all interesting, I'd go buy a stack of Tinto Brass DVDs.

I do get that HBO isn't exactly the Cartoon Network. We had a whole episode of Sex and the City that was about getting Charlotte over her fear of anal totally destroying her marriage prospects. The Bada-Bing! was serving up lap dances not high teas; and Trixie didn't make her way in Deadwood selling aromatherapy candles and full-body clothed Reiki treatments.

But no amount of tit (or long hanging peen, come to that) is going to mask the sound of ill-written exposition clunking over the points.

I was pretty uncomfortable with the books' treatment of the Dothraki generally, so the casual nudity in their scenes was only part of my discomfort at seeing them on screen. I guess I was hoping for too much for fantasy tropes like that to be at least partially subverted by a visual reinterpretation.

One thing I will say about GoT on screen, though: Martin's work significantly benefits from abbreviation.

Yeah but I'm very busy and important, I like to multitask. I got story AND porn rolled into one, which saves me risking all kinds of viruses later...

Sounds like a village on the Smut branch line. Boobage, Sandy Balls, Rimswell, Hole of Horcum, Fingringhoe, pass through Fanny Hands Lane and your service terminates at Titlington Mount.

The idea of covering Wuthering Heights with anything other than ironical intent is a bit of a mystery to me. Especially since I'm not convinced Kate herself wasn't taking the piss.

But when, after days of practice, I showed off my ukulele homage to an audience, based on this version

I ended up offending everyone by being so disrespectful to the original.

My daughter developed her ukulele cover before hearing the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain's version. I'd call it successful in that people have given her money when playing it busking.

  • Susannah Shepherd,

Which cover of Kate Bush's gloriously insane Wuthering Heights makes your ears cry louder?

The Wolfmother lasted less than 60 seconds due to sheer tuneless incompetence - but tuneless incompetence isn't that hard to find. I can do it myself effortlessly. A train wreck on the scale of the Hayley Westenra performance, on the other hand, is something special.

    I miss Alan Partridge.
