  • Christopher Dempsey,

Ahh I did wonder why the 'Council building foyer' looked a bit odd - I couldn't think of a less 'council' looking foyer yet I couldn't think what building it was...

    So say we all.

  • marychristina,

I'm so pleased that my cousin, David Haywood, and his family, Jen, Bob and new born polly are alive and well but in disbelief about the destruction of their house.

Apparently Paul Norris was on RNZ yesterday and said they were fine, no one at the school hurt.

  • Goodoh,

My dad was in the cathedral yesterday and was missing until 6ish last night. Worst thing was the TV3 reporter wandering in to the cathedral and chatting away about "if there are people in here they're under there..." How he was allowed in there I do not know. Felt like he was walking on dad's grave.
Dad eventually found in hospital, covered in cuts and bruises but well enough to go home to my frantic mum. Thankfully she had no power and wasn't seeing the telly.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Just heard from Hamish Keith that delicious old luvvie -- *cough* iconic theatre figure -- Elric Hooper is "okay but his house is not in good shape".

    Good news.

  • Peter Darlington,

Nelson music fans were a bit worried about DJ Rob Macdonald (father of Jeremy Glenn of The Upbeats), mainly because his day job is sitting up high in a rickety box in Lyttleton operating a port crane.

Happily, Rob was ok through the quake but his house was badly damaged. He and partner Zoe have headed back up here to sit things out.

  • Kris V,

checking in from Shakeytown... Have only just checked into PA so don't have the energy to wade through the discussions and replies on the other thread. I'm doing better than some, although I'm still waiting to hear back from some people very close to me. I'll just have to wait for the official release of names and keep hoping that they're just out of contact and not out of luck.
What was my personal rebuilding blog has taken on a slightly different tone, as it's not just 2000 houses that need rebuilding anymore... it's almost the entire city.
    hugs to all fellow refugees

  • ruth eliz Zanker,

Ruth Zanker from the New Zealand Broadcasting School here.
Now have I time to read some posts... we are waiting to hear what happens to CPIT which is within the cordon.

The weekend was busy in more physical ways...like shifting son from 'munted' flat on Fitzgerald avenue ...and cooking for others.

All staff and students at Broadcasting School got out safely. Our students are now scattered back across the country. I am trying to reach as many as possible, as soon as possible. The server is currently down at CPIT.

My son in Boston just skyped from yet another snow blizzard. He and I talk about the pictures on Scoop and The Press together (newsprint still feels best for me with my first cuppa). It makes him and me feel closer.

Yet another glorious autumn Christchurch day beckons and teases us...Intoxicated bumble bees lumber around outside my window bumping into the ripe grape bunches.

We mourn our graduates lost in the CTV building...Matt and Sam.

Ruth Zanker note the email address is
    ruth.zanker@gmail.com
...Cpit server is currently out. Will know more later today.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Thanks for checking in, Ruth -- I think I can speak for all of us here at PAS in saying we're grateful for all who are safe and well, mourn for the lost, and wish you all the very best. You're not forgotten.

  • Craig Ranapia,

On a slightly more cheerful note, Canterbury Film Society president Ryan Reynolds (really) might not have a home but was elected president of the New Zealand Federation of Film Societies at their AGM over the weekend.

Sadly, the CFS will not be kicking off their season next Monday along with the rest of us. The ceiling has fallen in at the Regent Cinema, which was to have been the venue this year, and the fate of the brochures, which are waiting to be collected from the printer, is unknown. I understand nobody is expecting the CFS to get up and running before May or June at the very earliest.

I hope you'll all join with me in wishing all the best for Ryan and his partner Coralie, who are having some chill out time in Wellington. Loves and hugs to you both, and all the rest of the CFS and Christchurch Film Festival crew.

  • Craig Ranapia, in reply to Geoff Lealand,

Fingers crossed -- don't think I'm speaking out of school saying the Pedro Costa season (definitely on the more "challenging" end of the programme) was looking a bit touch-and-go for a while, and I'm personally hoping folks will get out of their comfort zones and embrace the anime. Really excited about finally seeing Spirited Away and Millennium Actress on the big screen rather than DVD.
