Radiation: It was all a dream

  • Danielle,

I blame reruns of Gilmore Girls on Vibe.

Confession: I was terribly sniffly when that show ended because I was so sad about never virtually-hanging-out with those people again.

(Naturally, someone will be along in a minute to rain on my parade by telling me that everyone in Stars Hollow was way too adorable and quirky, and what the hell, the town was called 'Stars Hollow', FFS, and even if they did watch the show, the latter seasons after Rory went to college got a bit too bloody OC for their liking, what with the rich bland boyfriend and the awesome apartment and blah blah blah and *whatever*. I know all this, and I don't care. I loved Gilmore Girls, and it once had a goddamn teen love scene set to XTC's 'Then She Appeared' [!!!] and so therefore it is made of win. End of.)

Well... yes. I have to admit I'm probably so far outside the target demographic I'd need serious air miles to get back in touch, but there is such a thing as the tipping point where whimsy becomes actively obnoxious (i.e. 'Pushing Dasies'). OTOH, I'm a huge fan of Joss Whedon -- and let's face it, any teenager who was as hyperactively snarky as the Scooby Gang would be getting bulk discount at the nearest A&E.

  • Joanna,

I'm going to goddam move to Stars Hollow and I will be so happy there any anyone who wants to come can come and live in my house and we'll do whatever jobs Kurt's not doing for a living.

My favourite Family Guy take on things (Sean McFarlane played some douchey guy who tried to pick up Lorelei, Alex Bornstien plays Emily Gilmore's personal dresser is this one clip that demonstrates the power of their speech and delivers what we really wanted. And if we mention the Dolly Parton karaoke I will fucking bawl like there are otters holding hands in front of me!

They so are. I blame Ghost Whisperer. It's a short leap from "ghosts are real! You can see them!" to "my subconscious is alive! And it's hot!"

I think the end of that Family Guy __Gilmore Girls__ parody might be a Seth McFarlane fantasy, though.

  • Emma Hart,

I saw the title of this post and had a horrible moment where I thought you were going to spoil tonight's 'Booth in a coma hallucination' episode of Bones, which no, I haven't seen, that just seems the logical assumption at this point. Having seen the trailer, I'll be astounded if anything that happens is real. Yes it's corny. No I don't care - yet.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, on the internet where everyone can see.

Yeah, I never pondered that possibility. I was always so thrilled to have an on-screen mother-daughter relationship that wasn't fraught to high heaven. (Full transference-disclosure: I love my mother and think she is hilarious and rad, and I hang out with her all the time. The main stumbling block with us becoming Lorelai and Rory is that one of us is horribly confused by any post-1977 pop-cultural reference.)

And that would be you, correct?

Enjoy Simon and Garfunkel tonight, by the way.

But on Battlestar Galactica they're just another shade in the palate of utterly screwing with your head until your will to live evaporates -- in a good way of course. I just hope and pray that C4 isn't going to blot its copybook by either splitting or screening a Freddy Kruger edit of the series finale, which is a wonderful exercise in everything and the kitchen sink. Plus a final two acts that is both total genius and complete bullshit.

I just got round that particular problem by ordering the box set from overseas.

If anyone posts any spoilers beofre I have a chance to watch it, there may well be blood.
