  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Our children will thank us for it.

At this point I would like to apologise to RB with my tiny bit of negative attitude toward "party central" but I think Paul L is right, and so it seems were some of us anyway.Plus Brownlee and McCully on the panel? pileeeze! So sorry :))))

  • Mrs Skin,

To be fair, the Auckland City Council urban designers seem to have a pretty good idea about what they're up against. I heard - I think it was the head chap - on the radio a while ago.

He'd flown in from South Africa or somewhere to interview for the job, and on the ride from the airport to the city he became convinced the taxi driver was, well, taking him for a ride - due to the utter suburban-ness etc of the route. The driver assured him this was the most direct route & showed him on the map.

He said the city 'planning' he saw on arrival and in subsequent days was not much of improvement on the trip from the airport.

  • Steve Curtis,

Yeah right , thats all we need is someone looking down their nose at the provincials.
Is someone who clearly' hasnt a clue' about how we live is going to provide advice on urban planning?

This is becoming more of a farce than I ever imagined

  • Just thinking,

All developments to date have past through our current crop of planners & Architects.

Just an up date on The Arts Centre in Christchurch.
Yesterday a closed 'workshop' was held at the CCC where submitter Rod Carr has the exclusive ear of council.
He obviously had more to say than he could in an open forum and covered more than was the scope of the council hearings.

The Christchurch Urban Design Panel submission approving of the proposed development is an Anonymous document. They are hiding from critique and it therefore has no veracity.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Ocktoberfest.
They seem to to do a mega party, and every year, not a one off.

    how about every Febrewery 6th
    we have a large culturally
    inclusive "White Hangi" day?

Yesterday a closed 'workshop' was held at the CCC where submitter Rod Carr has the exclusive ear of council.

I also note that the Press story didn't clarify whether Ken Franklin (AC Director) or any representative of the Arts Centre Trust were there - which seemed odd - the entire block is after all held in trust for the people of Chch by that bunch - who a couple of years back amended their Trust deed of incorporation by inserting the word "develop" throughout the document...
I'd be interested to hear if any Auckland folk know of Mr Franklin's development endeavours in Auckland prior to his initial appointment as property manager at the AC - I heard he was involved in some Mall development, (but I could be mistaken) and that seems to be what they are turning the Arts Centre into - there are few practising artists left on site now - and the ones that are, are being marginalised and face an uncertain future as AC management dithers over when and where they are going to be shifted to - so food shops can allegedly take their place - retail rules...

    Charging! Clear!
    just restarting an old thread...

here's something that would look good on the waterfront - if they can just build something that
we can get Eno to project on
    (no Telecom ads thanks!)
