  • Islander, in reply to George Darroch,

I've built 2 houses, and renovated one ...have arthritis in wrists, fingers & shoulder
(right, hammer arm)...when my building contractor brother suggested a nail-gun for building an outshed - I fell in love with the thing! (And yes, after long practise, I can seat a 4-inch - or 6-inch- nail and drive it home cleanly ('4 for a four/6 for a six')
BUT depends on the wood. DO NOT try this on old rimu-

  • wendyf,

Thanks, David, for an alternative vision of lovely Brownlee. Idly kicking a stapled cat on a round table, but not realising it's an old Garfield - a dunger.. Specsavers have seriously extensive gadgets for checking out eyes. And you get a second pair free!!

Yo Sof’ & Steve! Kia ora! – while any tool can be a weapon, I just cant see tools as masculine or weaponry, All due respect to Hilary but – a sabre saw (can be very delicately manouvered) or a chain-saw- can do jobs brillantly. Like a nailgun. Or a stapler-

  • Kumara Republic, in reply to Tim Michie,

It's not just ChCh that's grappling with urban planning being taken out of its hands. Len Brown is in a stoush with Prostetnic Vogon Joyce and Bulldozer Brownlee over the City Rail Link, and now Mayor Celia is effectively being blackmailed by the NZTA over whether a flyover or a tunnel is best for the Basin Reserve.

Once again, I am reminded of UrbanArchipelago.com:

When cities set their own transportation priorities, truly urban systems (like the monorail) get funded and built, while the suburban mega-highways that lard initiatives like R-51 go unfunded. We don't use suburban roads. We can let the suburbs figure out a way to pay for them.

That which I posted earlier is debatable because this was decision about a ministerial decision. A headache for them any which way.

It's only a problem if you start spending more time in your cupboard playing with your jewelery.

  • Stewart,

    Is 'jewelery' (sic) a euphemism?

Apologies - I am an inverterate tone-lowerer. With a filthy mind/sense of humour.

  • Sj,

David! So good to hear from you and see young Bob (the Builder) in action, though Mark is frowning worriedly here at the news of your eyesight, as am I. As others have said already, best to get onto it pronto. My father left a semi-detached retina too long and lost the sight in one eye as a result. He was in his sixties at the time, mind. Not to alarm you. I'm sure you're onto it by now anyway.
We've been away in America (first time), so apologies for my belated comment. I realise you've no time to reply or even read all comments - especially ones so late they're into the following year! - but I just wanted to say hi, and HNY too. Oh and great post. I think, as Russell suggests, it might be an idea for you to do as VG did and keep your art/writing weapon of choice with you at all times. If the pen be mightier than the sword, how mighty must the pen and nail gun together be? Something to think about. Power to your nail gun, I say. And belated congratulations to Russell and the Public Address team on ten years. That's a lot of ink - and (for some) a lot of nails. Well done.
On a related matter, if anyone would be interested in reading a short essay or two from me on our recent travels in America, I'd be happy to oblige.

  • Ross Mason,

    Why not put this here:

Sciblogs “Bill” has this to say about EQCs latest Gangland Response to Angry Christchurch Citizen.

    http://sciblogs.co.nz/thedismalscience/2013/03/04/mau-mauing-the-eqc-flak-catchers/

One — always, always, it is important to remember that EQC has not fulfilled the insurance policy that we all paid for. We paid money for many years in order to have full restitution within a year in the case of an earthquake. Two years after February, two and a half years after September, and still the earthquakes are costing the citizens and property owners of Christchurch. EQC did not sort things out and did not make people whole and never will.
