Members of the New Zealand Deaf community have been anxiously following the tragic Emma Agnew story.

But as many deaf people have New Zealand Sign Language as their first language, they may struggle reading English-language news reports or subtitles on TV news.

So the Deaf Association have been getting transcripts of TV news reports, translating them into NZSL, making videos and putting them up on YouTube within hours of the original news broadcast.

This is the power of the internet.
