Tried. Not sure if it works. Anyway I'm wondering how long the site is up for as I'd like to use it at school just as an another tool for presentations and suchlike.
    Oh it worked, great.

  • Speaker: Bad Aid: How Murray McCully is…,

Why is it that so many Ministers in the current government seem allergic to expert advice or evidence? (Anne Tolley and National Standards springs immediately to mind, but there are plenty of other examples)

My theory on this is that they feel experts have a vested interest in whatever is being proposed and any opposition, no matter that it is based on evidence/experience whatever, is the expert trying to protect a perceived priviliged position. At least that's the arguement that was thrown at teachers when the Bulk Funding battle was being waged.

  • Hard News: Friday Fever,

Ah vinyl. Came back from the US and Canada last month with an armful of new and used vinyl and cd's. Went to Ameoba in SF. Just mindblowing the size and selection. The sort of place you need to go into with a plan. Good prices too. Nothing over $20 with some good finds for just $2-5. Snagged King of Limbs on vinyl for $12. My vinyl obsession just keeps growing.
Here's something if you like blonde scandanavian pedal steel players, a member of Calexico and Mark Lanegan.

    or this with Rachel Flotard

  • Hard News: Fridays are still for the music, in reply to Kracklite,

You can get to all the PJ Harvey videos through her Facebook page. They were putting up one a day throughout the week about 2 weeks ago. This album is definitely going to be in my top 10 for the year.

@3410. Have you ever looked at the Rust List. or Thrashers Wheat? Both good places for all things Neil. I actually have a burnt CD copy of Time Fades Away. Not sure of the source though.

Looking forward to this. Another Neil Young archival release from one of his country phases. (posted the link cos it's not on Youtube...yet)

  • Hard News: It Began ... in Chicago,

Really I was born a decade or 2 too early to fully appreciate and understand dance culture and also spent the 80's being a parent with all the financial and time constraints that brought with it. Consequently house/dance/hip hop/rap doesn't really figure in my musical DNA. My default setting has always been around Neil Young/Dylan/singer songwriter stuff and whatever spins off that axis yet last week I pounced on a vinyl copy of New Order's Sanctuary in the second hand shop. Weird though how Bonnie Raitt and Little Feat can end up in a thread about house music. And Jackie I too have a soft spot for KC's Get Down Tonight.

  • Hard News: Getting dressed for the party, in reply to Jackie Clark,

Yeah it annoys me too Jackie especially the criticism secondary teachers got last year for taking industrial action around exam time when the rearranged terms this year are going to play havoc with exam preparation yet nobodys jumped on their high horse about that.

  • Field Theory: Hospital Pass,

Hmmm. Could this have something to do with the official looking people (one in a RWC shirt) wandering around outside McLean Park this afternoon. May be another game for Napier. And at the risk of sounding uncharitable-did I hear right on One News tonight that the government may pay for those who had tickets to these games in Christchurch to attend them in Auckland. Colour me unimpressed if that's the case.

  • Hard News: Nothing important, just some tunes, in reply to Geoff Lealand,

Feijoas-wow mine aren't anywhere near ready. Mind you I'm still picking some rather sweet strawberries and the figs are starting to ripen.
