.. and also discuss ( meaningfully) the relevance of the Declaration of Independence and the role of the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles will have in any new constitutional arrangements. Locke's Bill ignored that discussion.

Edgeler: Haven't we been repeatedly told it wasn't an "anti-smacking" law?

Why is there is concern that the PM has said light smacking is okay (read lawful) if the law we passed wasn't about smacking at all?

Because it was about smacking. We all know that. And it was the Greens that started that one. And to Key " okay" in this context doesn't necessarily mean " lawful".

The Prime Minister's task force has made some sensible suggestions about improving communication with some parents, and I think now is the time for journalists to focus on those

Such as? If you want journos to focus on these, could you have perhaps mentioned what these suggestions are ?

  • MMP: This Time It's Binding,

well that's reassuring, every voter gets to decide. What kind of national referenda are conducted where every voter does not get to decide?

  • MMP: This Time It's Binding,

This avoids 1and 2 MP parties, so the smallest parties in parliament will have 3 members (excepting those 1 electorate MP parties).

Unless of course the Bill and Ben gets over the reduced threshold. If that party was to get more than 2.8% of the vote it may contribute to a parliamentary underhang.

  • Hard News: The son that got away,

..so what does " more than transitory or trifling" mean, then. You cant hit a kid too hard for correction but you can hit him a little harder if he is running into a speeding car because transitory and trifling has an elevated threshold in certain circumstances?

The fact that everybody is entitled to accomodation supplement, tax credits, plus the $60 in work payment if you work 20hrs (single) or 30 hrs (partnered)? And that DPBers are required to work 15 hours a week - that income

Not quite. Only those who are not on benefits get the In Work Payment. And those on the dpb are not required to work but some are encouraged to look for work. If course if they are training using the training incentive allowance - which all current trainees can get until their course finishes - that would be taken into account - and those people can get childcare and student loans..But if they are in a Housing NZ place I understand they are not even entitled to the accommdation supplement..
