Our wisteria is rather magnificent at the moment, despite the usual die-back and over-wintering wetas. Very Hedy Lamarr when you go out front; indeed, passsersby are stopping to share the scent.

  • Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe,

I don't really understand all this hating on David Cunliffe and the parroting of what various know-nothings in the media have declared about him. He had a conversation pre-election with my young daughter and she was pretty damn astute in her assessment, judging him to to be a genuine guy. Sure, he has stumbled along the way but there have plenty around helping him trip.

On the housing situation: the NZ Horrid had a feature today on '10 reasons the market is still booming'. Not one mention of real estate agents, who have a significant hand in pushing up prices, in anticipation of hefty commissions,

There must be. The Pretty Things returned to NZ last year, after being banned for life from our shores after some greatly exaggerated rascally behaviour here in the 1960s. I saw them at The Powerhouse, and they seemed quite alive.

  • Hard News: A call from Curia, in reply to Tom Semmens,

That is a very good argument. There are also vested interests ie the proliferation of market research firms running polls and raking in $$$. One reliable source told me that the average cost of commissioning a national poll is $25,000. Sort of akin to real estate agents pushing up the cost of housing, in the interest of commissions?

  • Hard News: Time to Vote,

Just hope my daughter in Kyoto has found a way to vote. She had a long chat with David Cunliffe a few weeks back and was very impressed.

  • Hard News: A call from Curia,

As there does not appear to be any general ‘directory’ of mobile numbers, I wonder how they can be randomly selected. As for online responses, this cannot be regarding as polling as it would be self-selecting.
