  • Speaker: The secret Christchurch…,

Suzie's performance this morning on Morning Report with Lianne, was appalling. She asks the good questions but yells over the top of the answer -repeatedly. When an interviewee slides off the answer it is great that the interviewer drags them back. (Looking at you John Key!) But this morning was a very black mark for Suzie.

In our house we are deeply saddened by stories such as Greg's and his story must be told. There are so many in this apparently insoluble quagmire. Best wishes Greg.

_"That was the beginning of a process of thoughtful consideration which has brought me firmly to one conclusion: virginity doesn’t exist. It doesn’t exist in any kind of objective scientific sense, anyway. It’s pure social construction. "_
Interesting in the biblical sense. The Church insists on the "Virgin Mary." A whole society is built around this idea. Of course the Hebrew meaning of virgin was just to mean "a good woman." But lets not deny this idea as it would cause a collapse. The Church is too big to fail.

  • Access: Defective, deficient, deviant…,

A complete stranger waiting ahead of me in a Post Office queue, suddenly swung around with cell phone in hand. She trembled as she told me that she had just received a text from her daughter who had just given birth to a Downs Syndrome girl. I was able to tell her that for many families faced with what seems like a catastrophe, it can instead be part of an enriching family experience where siblings and relatives rise to the challenge and learn to love and be proud of each tiny advance that the child makes. Perhaps it puts into focus just what are important values.
I wonder if Hilary's Mum found enrichment? Bet she did.

  • Hard News: To be expected, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

spiner is a complete fail as an interviewer to be trusted, I heard him ambush someone else the other day...

That was an interview with Hone where Guyon suddenly switched from the agreed topic to questions about the possible alliance with Dotcom. Hone's retort was explicit about the the lack of relevance to the agreed topic and Guyon mumbled and retreated. If there is any doubt about Hone speaking his mind, forget it. Guyon? Lift your game lad.

  • Hard News: To be expected,

A bit ominous actually. This weeks Morning Report has been insipid and repetitive. Guyon seems to be like Paddy in that if there is a simple straightforward explanation he (they) twist it into some dark plot. I wonder if Guyon will declare a war between National and ACT since (wait for it!) John Key has not declared that he will have a cup of tea with their new leader! Dark days ahead for ACT then.

  • Hard News: Gower Speaks, in reply to Russell Brown,

Fancy Audrey publishing the Roy Morgan Poll results. And fancy the Herald allowing her to since it conflicts rather with their own poll.

  • Hard News: Gower Speaks, in reply to bob daktari,

I couldn’t care less for the continual news reportage of polls…. seems only to satisfy the math geeks who seem 100% in agreement that they are (seriously) flawed and cannot a soundbite make

That may be so but a huge part of the audience get the message intended.
This or that Party is rising in the Polls. They must be OK.
This or that Party is down in the Polls. They must be rubbish.
That's all I need to know because I have more important stuff to do.

  • Hard News: Gower Speaks,

Russel reported that Paddy said: "David Cunliffe was found to be using a trust to conceal donations to his campaign for the .............. Do you think David Cunliffe’s actions were worthy of a man who wants to be Prime Minister?

To be fair the Survey could have said: " Mr Key concealed the fact that his charity game of golf was actually a fund raiser for the National Party and he concealed a second game in the same way. Do you think John Key's action were worthy of a man who is Prime Minister?"

    Balanced questions Paddy?

  • Hard News: Poll Day 2: Queasy,

Does Paddy frame the questions for the survey? The way that he frames the questions for his interview show that he has pre-determined answers and even if the interviewee should dare to stray from Paddy's expected answer, the he fixes that by putting his interpretation on the answer even if wildly different. eg:Norman/Cunliffe's interviews.
Spin is expected from politicians but for Reporters to be so self-indulgent is disgraceful.
