  • Hard News: Walk the Line,

If the Government is going to be consistent, why shouldn't they ban party pills?

If they're going to ban E, why not also ban its simulacrum? No-one might have died, sure (when was the last E-related death in NZ? Are we still sitting at 3?) but there have been a bunch of cases where serious psychological harm has ensued.

A mate of mine ended up in the mental health ward after taking party pills, and while just like pot, it probably acted as a catalyst for a pre-existing condition, if it wasn't for the pills he probably wouldn't have lost the plot.

I'm certainly not pushing for a ban, just saying that party pills are just as/more dangerous than E. And the 'no reported fatalities' line might be true, but it masks all the harm happening underneath.

Same as with the argument over raising the drinking age again. Almost any argument you can make to push it to 20 you can also make to push it to 30, 40, or ban it outright...

  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

And yes, my god Tom, time on your hands or what? Although I must beg to disagree with your findings - I was in Otorohonga not three months ago and all I saw were birds.

    Ah ha. Geddit

(I was actually, in Otorohonga, and I did actually see birds. It wasn't just a pun for its own sake. God no. Ummm...yeah I'll just be getting back to work now)

  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

Coincidentally enough I received my first 'smile' from someone today (I don't have a photo on my profile, it keeps the queue shorter...) Friendly person that I am, I smiled back.

But because we're both obviously cheap-arses, it can't go any further until one of us digs into our pocket and upgrades to "Gold" status. Although it could be a nice relationship, just two people smiling back and forth. Forever.

    >Having seen you in action at Mighty Mighty, I'd say you don't need any help :-)

That wasn't me you saw at Mighty Mighty, that was my obnoxious alcoholic twin, um, Evil Damian. He has no shame with the ladies.

  • Cracker: Rate my Date,

    yeah exactly. Mermaids?

    So much to say.

Kate: Yes I know I work in the media and without going into a Cactus-Kate relevatory discussion of the various comings and goings in my life, (not least of all because Russell simply wouldn't allow me to sully his new site in such a way, it'd be like removing a vehicle's new-car smell courtesy by projectile vomiting after a night of Malaysian and Jagermeister), I don't need to go on an Internet date, I just thought it might be interesting to do so. And there are a couple of cuties there...

Gary: Sorry if I sound cranky, it's just that I have a limited vocab and a lot of them seem to be cranky-sounding words. I'm kinda like a Mr Potato Head who only has his Angry Eyes. I like that analogy. (cultural reference tip, Toy Story 2) I'm not really cranky.

Nick: Yeah I guess I'd be cool telling my friends I met the person via internet dating. Kinda. Sorta. it's just that drunken party pashing/monkey sex with your friend's workmate's friend that she dragged along because they'd been at a work thing beforehand and this was on the way home anyway is so much easier. And less contrived I guess. Selecting someone and then asking them out, arranging a date etc seems like an awful lot of work by comparison.

Carmel: Wow, thanks for the story. A shocker. I guess there just ain't that many people around huh. I'm surprised I haven't been 'matched' with more people I know. Then again, I guess I don't know that many transexual Leos aged 25-35

When I need to 'lose' the DRM on a file, or record something that only streams (research purposes people, research purposes), I use a nice free app called Goldwave (available at goldwave.com ).

Sure, you have to make sure your computer doesn't beep or anything while the tune is playing through itunes/WMP or whatever, but apart from that it seems to work fine.

Maybe the moment just wasn't right on the night? She dumped him because he wasn't open/honest, or because he has a kid? The former I can understand, the latter some might consider a bit harsh.

I do love Brendhan Lovegrove's line though: "So I have a son. I'm not with the mother anymore though - I'm just not into chicks with kids..."

(or something like that. Funnier when he tells it).

Yeah the first link I clicked on in the apple store didn't work... not a great look for a launch, especially for something on the front page...

They don't have any Bic Runga on the i-tunes store? I've got heaps on my computer, maybe i could sell them some of my tunes at $1.79 a pop...

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

Following from what Chris said above, I've also had great support from Renaissance regarding my iPod, replacing my old 40GB for the second time despite the second replacement being outside of warranty.

Of course they knew where I worked, I'd be interested to know if they've been as helpful for anyone not working in media. Given that the iPod crapout rate seems to be anectdotally a lot higher than desirable, I wonder how far the Consumer Goods Act would step in to protect people whose expensive little white jukeboxes pass away outside of warranty. Is 13 months a reasonable expectation? 18 months?

Speaking of which, my new 80GB has a glitch where trying to play certain songs (most notably Interpol) shuts the iPod down and it has to be turned on again. Anyone else struck this? I guess I should probably just erase it and start again, but thought it might be worth throwing it out there....

  • Stink Bro,

I still definitely enjoy BroTown, but the bits I find funniest are the parts which seem to be adlibbed, the little incidental bits.

And I agree about the cameos - just because the Prime Minister is available, do you have to use her? Actually, maybe you do, who's going to pull NZOA funding when the boss is on the show?

Scrubs is definitely a favourite, but with everything that's on Wednesday my MySky is working overtime. Does it seem to anyone else that Wed night TV is the new Western Front?

  • Cracker: I've Got the Love. In the Music,

Tony: There was that 'Book of Right On' track or whatever it was called by Joanna Newsom on ultra high rotate on the bFM playlist for a while - tore the station in two. Not since the Springbok tour has anything polarised people so starkly.

I thought it was an okay song until Hugh Sundae pointed out to me that she sounds exactly like Lisa Simpson! Never able to listen to it the same way since.
