I expect it to shake up textbook sellers (as distinct from publishers) for the university age demographic.
Still no, as far as I can see, bluetooth keyboard use with it- That has always been on my wish list for note taking: setting the screen at a comfortable height , the keyboard on my lap, and no wires to tangle.

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

    and basically no Parliament

We are far better off than other parts of the Commonwealth. The Prime Minister, subpoenaed by parliament for information relating to a torture scandal, suspends parliament sitting for two months. Says in interview "government can do more important work without MPs sitting". The country, as you have probably guessed, is Canada.

No, you don't _Understand_. The Chinese imported goods are the beachhead. When the command is given, they will Transform into fighting robots. The problem is that with the destruction of the American automotive industry there will be very few freedom loving transforming robots to stand against them.

Rather topically, Slashdot this morning linked to an itworld story which notes that the Adult Industry is being very slow and cautious to go into 3D, which somewhat undercuts Dr Hartwich's line of argument.

  • Hard News: Getting out of the archives,

Ben, religion (or lack of) in New Zealand is largely seen as a personal matter (in keeping with the tradition in New Zealand of "do what you like, but leave me out of it") so if people suddenly start discussing their religious beliefs with people they do not know, it is as socially awkward as someone suddenly talking about other personal matters.
If people broke into public prayer on a train, it would be about as transgressive as other personal acts done in public, so people would tend to ignore them or move away. Much like the couple who had a one stop stand on the train the other night, that would be about the same level of awkwardness.

I'm fine with the Atheist bus, but then I've never complained about various churches using their tax-free land to put up "Jesus is only true path" billboards. The whole point of a secular pluralist society is that people can believe, and say, what they like in religious terms.
Like many less/non-religious folk I know, I get a little nervous around the concept a pluralist society, and the espoused opinion of some fundamentalistic folk that they have a moral duty to make others live to their standards. But I also recognize that, in a pluralist society, most people who say such things are just espousing an opinion rather than actually going to make me do anything.
I likes my pluralism I do.
In the course of writing this, I couldn't help but imagine an Atheist bus fable told in fundamentalist households- The Atheist Bus that roams the roads at night, running down believers and ferrying the unwary to dens of iniquity (like casinos and universities)

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

To me, it felt like the Gage interview got antagonistic as Gage would revert to "I'm just wanting to ask questions" rather than explore inconsistencies in his position. Because there were rather a lot of inconsistencies, it made for a poor interview as there was no development. OTOH I have trouble imagining it having gone any other way. It's possible it could have turned into an exploring the mindset of a conspiracy theorist with following up Gage's repeated assertions of "I'm an engineer not a conspiracy theorist" with "Why do you see the two as being mutually exclusive", but my sense was neither party was wanting to go down that road.
