    Obtuse is not the word.......

And is it for this same reason that people in the Land of the Broken Boot get around by riding German singers and/or Native American tribes?

Australia??? Two front seats and a tray on the back - Utes are beaut? Holden? Ford?

"Land of the broken boot"?? WTFIT?

Italians? Big Booted italy kicked little Sicily, into the middle of the Mediteranean Sea.?? But is is not broken.

Broken Boot??/ Seen if the bootup of a PC fails????

    Other than that....I give up.

    Eureka??....er...no.

Bollard. One may assume that those who take up the opportunity to sign Bank Notes need to have a thick skin...or are able to survive a good bollocking. Bollards hardly move so maybe.....Then there are those who are a little Brash and also signed the bills.

Actually a bollard may not necessarily be a traiifc cone. They are a bit more solid than that being they keep things like cars etc out! One can move a cone.

Maybe he is a conehead? Alienish?

Rolls of fthe tongue though doesn't it. Bollard, Bolllaaaarrd. Bolaaaard. Bollllllllllard. Got a good gutteral start and a loud harsh ending.

    Thank you James.....phew...

William Sealey Gosset worked for Guinness, but was prohibited from publishing by his employer, so used the pseudonym A. Student.

You are right, and "commercial sensitivity" was a 'problem' even back then!!

Golly. Giving children the same protection rights as adults in legislation might actually have worked!

We might be witnessing the first small steps to social sanity, a first step towards sending the message to future parents to treat children with the care they deserve.

And dare I say it might, in time, see a reduction in crime.

    They couldn't be connected....could they?

    Student's t distribution

For years and years and years...and years, I could not understand why anyone was interested enough to name a distribution stats thing after "a student". Why were students so important???

The eureka moment was shattering. It suddenly dawned one day while idly perusing a statisticians bookshelf when I saw an author called....Student.

    Duh.

Please please please tell me there were/are others just as confused.....

  • Busytown: A turn-up for the books,

So I heard a "rumour" on the weekend -- and it's not the first time that I have heard it, and from sources as reputable as you would want -- that Witi Ihimaera "farms out" the grunt work of writing his novels to a collection of minions*.

Witi has been quoted as saying he is yet to write his best work.

Someone jokingly suggested that he is yet to find his best work.

Gage looked interesting, but I hadn't done enough work on sussing out his detractors (check out this forum for instance). It's like creation/evolution - stirs up a hornet's nest and nobody wins.

Well...he is probably right unfortunately...in America at least. But check out the 1997 Gallup poll re everyone else V Scientists. ....c'mon the College Grads!!!....we still have some work to do......keep at it folks!

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

Actually, as an adjunct, I'd love to have Kim Hill invite a scientist on to her show simply to talk about the scientific method for the benefit of her audience.

She did. With Paul Callaghan for a couple of years. Review of a book of the series is here:

Te Papa being a venue for such tripe is certainly a concern and I'll let Gio write to them!!

To Mark Cubey: Call Paul for an opinion if you have concerns about an interviewee.....I'm sure he could enlighten you and put you in the right mood for the interview.

I am surprised at some of the responses to the Gage interview and talk. Seems we may have some closet conspirators amongst us......cue X Files intro music again.

However, on a wee other note. Has anyone been to "Natures Discovery" lately? a franchise[?] that includes Westfield Queensgate and Papanui. They now have a free stand displaying creationist literature and "resources". (Small captial letters). For some reason I have an immense desire to cease visitng the place until they rid the place of it.

    Finally:

NO NO NO NO...NOT THE MOON AGAIN...............AAAAHHHHHHH
