  • Hard News: New Zealand Weekend Television,

    :D Emma

To be fair, I keep the 'identities' mostly separate online. The gravatar might be the only giveaway.

  • Hard News: New Zealand Weekend Television,

I got all fired up when they first announced the new telethon (September last year?) and decided to run a board-gameathon (gold coin donation per game played in).

Various organisational discrepancies (including moving the bloody date ) have cooled my enthusiasm, but there will still be board games & suchlike happening @ my place in Christchurch from midday Saturday to whenever on Sunday afternoon/evening.

Chch PAers are welcome to come along, email me for details [points at envelope icon] :D

A post-midnight game of Munchkin: Impossible is a must - it's time the Sleeper Agent got some love!

  • Up Front: Any Port in a Storm,

You write wonders Emma :) Thank you for sharing. Fortunately my immediate family has never had to deal with this issue (as far as I know) but imagination has never been something I was short of....

On a personal note I was involved in the recent rebuild of the Christchurch specific Women's Refuge site (http://www.womensrefuge.co.nz/) ... it's a bit surreal seeing it on the billboard campaign around Chch.

  • Hard News: ffunnell Up!,

Nope, errr, because banner blindness for the win! My stand on banners is as long as they don't actually grab my attention or perform nasty tricks to get under my mouse (sliders, we hatessss them), they can stay.

Also, very interested in reading the comments on web stats above, thanks Stephen/Mark/Jason et al.

  • Speaker: The Telecom XT Discussion,

It seems to me that whenever I try to adjust the plans to reduce the cost per phone something else comes into play and the overall cost stays the same.

So very very tangentially related, but a while ago I spent some time poking around the TestraClear site to see if there was a better plan (residential or business) I could move to (our internet usage was blowing out a bit).

What I came away with after the math was a feeling of mild astonishment that the same cost/services package could be sliced, diced and presented in so many different ways.

I don't doubt the same strategy is at play here.

My actually wedding was a blast. You'd have loved it. Here's one of the official pictures.

The number of people I immediately knew* in that picture scares me just a little. I feel all old now.

    *I worry that I would recognise more if I cross-referenced Phil's photos

  • Hard News: There is History,

I was intrigued to notice that New Zealand' was a trending topic on Twitter last night.

On closer examination we were being dragged up by #swineflu and 'swine flu' in general.

  • Hard News: It would be polite to ask,

I saw Tuariki on the news a little while ago - for breaching bail, after which he was ... impolite to the media waiting outside.

Even before he got outside there was something about the way he was standing in the dock which made me say to myself "they've lost him".

And I was sad. I hope he gets the chance to grow up a different way some time.

I see no problem with lying. You just run the risk of someone in your audience also having gone to St Andrew's.

    [Waves]

After over two decades in Chch starting with my time there I still don't grok the whole schools thing. Perhaps fortunately it has yet to arise in any significant context.
